Which polymer gun to buy in 40SW?

I've been looking into buying a polymer framed pistol for some time and need some input. I've shot and/or owned the following pistols. CZ100(trigger too heavy & thin/painfull). HK USP (too big & blocky grip). Glock 23(funky trigger & stiff recoil). Glock 23C(this shot the best of all the polymer guns. It had a trigger job before I bought it). I'm looking hard at a Steyr M40 & am going to see one tomorrow night. The Walthers seem to be out of my price range and don't anyone EVEN suggest a S&W Sigma. Feed back please.

It would definitely be one of the Glock's for me; as I own and love my model 27!!! :D

I love the Glock 22. I've been hearing great things about the Steyr ever since they got the initial bugs worked out of it, but I have no personal experience with the weapon.

Maybe a Glock 22 would fit you a little better. It is a tad larger. :)

Wait & hope Ruger makes one. Or ditch your predeliction for the .40 and get a P95(9mm) or P97(.45)

Two of my favorites are the Glock 23 and the P99. My P99 is 9mm, though (I'd rather 16+1 rounds of 9 than 12+1 of .40). Take a long hard look at it, though.

I'd have to go with the Glock 22. Once you get use to the trigger you will learn to love it. It the best of all worlds. Not a true double or singe action. The slack at the beginning(like a double action on the first shot)is very light and is designed to disable the safety. The second stage of the pull is designed to finish retracting the already partially compressed the firing pin's spring. The second stage (if you can call it that) is about 5 lbs with just a little creep. Good break. It just might be the simplest and best designed pistol on the market today. Just my 2 cents. dgang

Glock 27. More accurate than the G23 with less recoil IMO. Also Rugers - I have not owned the 40cal Ruger (my least favorite cal) but the 9mms are great.

EAA Witness P-series, compact or full size, or PS (slimmer frame)?? DA/SA, decent single action trigger pull and conventional safety. $279 locally, might be worth looking at.

Maybe I'm misreading this, but if you shop around, you should get a Walther P99 for not much more than a Glock. The HKs are more expensive than the Walthers, but I'm assuming that you're not looking at the HK from your post. I don't know about the cost of the Steyr, but are they priced similarly to Glocks? I'd also second that suggestion for a SigPro 2340.

I agree you would need a medium large to large hand to use the fullsize HK USP, but what about the compact. It is quite easy to use and handle, even with medium small hands. Of course, price may be higher than others you have looked at. Whatever you get, consider quality as one of the issues.

I have the Glock 22 and the SIG 2340. They are both mechanically flawless. If I could only have one of them, I'd go for the SIG. It is purely subjective, a matter of what feels right. I can shoot both of them equally accurately. However, if I haven't shot the Glock for a while, it takes about half a box of ammo to reacquire the accuracy, because the Glock just handles differently than my other guns (mostly SIGS and Kimbers). All of the .40s discussed in this thread are top line and are probably capable of shooting better than their owners can (speaking for myself). The final choice comes down to what turns you on.
