Which pistol

Hey all.
I have narrowed down my choices to these three and was wondering if anyone could give any feedback.

glock 34, Smith M&P 9 pro and Walther PPQ

Now I really like the looks of the PPQ but competition holsters and accessories seem to be hard to come by where as the glock has as many options as an iphone but not too fond of the grip and they are as common as mud.

The M&P seems to be a good middle ground with regards to holsters and quality and all are priced around $100 to each other.

Any ideas/opinions?

I'd go with this one

Walther PPQ

I own an M2 in .40. Love it

I have owned a glock model 20, sold it
Then an M&P40, sold it

But this Walther is staying in the family alongside the 1911.

You will not find a better trigger on a striker fired gun than on the Walther. The Walther doesn't need upgrades or modifications but there are small companies that make recoil spring assemblies and barrels, and several companies make sights for it. I recommend Talon grips for the PPQ as well. I just got my Aliengear IWB leather holster yesterday and am fairly happy with it. There should be several companies making OWB holsters that should be suitable for competition. The Walther PPQ has been out since about 2011-2012 so the aftermarket is producing some goodies. The only thing I will change on mine is maybe a different set of sights. The rear notch is a bit wider than I'd like.

Insufficient information. buy a Glock.

I like the M&P, Glocks don't really fit for me and I'd upgrade parts on both the M&P and the Glock to get them where I want them . All in all about the same price after parts. Now the PPQ is a funny ole gun. I almost like it but just something about the grip doesn't feel right. Almost uncomfortable, which is strange because the VP9 was as close to a perfect grip as I've ever held and they're very similar. I don't care for the ergos or the look of the PPQ but I will admit it's probably the best tool out of the box of the 3. After tweaking the guns to my preferences I'd lean towards the M&P.

There are subtle differences in all 3 guns you've picked...and it should come down to what fits your hands the best.

It would be better if you could rent each - and fire them.../ but if you can't - then dry fire each ...is your grip comfortable, do they each come up on "plane" or do you have to roll your wrist to level them out as you come up from low ready position ( grip angle), can you reach mag release and all controls without shifting your grip, do you like the triggers - how they break, how they reset, do they wobble, size of trigger pad, is it smooth or not..., sights, front strap is it smooth or checkered - same issue on back strap...

all the little stuff...

Its not about what fits my hands.../ but of the 3, I would pick the M&P...( but I'm not crazy about any of them). My go to gun - is a full sized, 5" barrel, 1911 in 9mm these days.

Whichever one feels best in your hand. To me glocks feel horrible and don't fit me well. I actually prefer M&P grip to the PPQ grip but overall like the PPQ better. I believe the PPQ is manufactured better and you are less likely to get a lemon with the Walther. I had a bad M&P and got rid of it. Told myself I was done with striker fired guns until I handled and dry fired the PPQ. If I were rich I would have an H&K P30 .40 but alas I am not

Put a lot of thought into picking a gun...and I hope you get it right the first time...but for many guys, unless you've been able to shoot them, its hard to get it right the first time.

Having said that....the price of the gun is the least significant issue in the cost of shooting.../ ammo alone in 9mm today is around $ 15 a box...and if you only go to the range once a month, 4 boxes per trip, that's $ 60 a month or
$ 720 a year...just in ammo. And if its a gun you're going to carry ...in my opinion, you should go to the range...and shoot more than that - to remain competent.

and if you need classes, a holster, a few extra mags...its an expensive hobby.

We all have budgets...but its more important to pick the gun that suits you the best !

Although I would have a preference for the M&P Pro, I really don't think there is a bad choice to be made between these three firearms. But it sure would help if the OP would tell us what the intended purpose of the pistol was!

I'd take the PPQ. You get two magazine release options to choose from. I prefer the paddle style of the M1 (Classic). Out of all my 9mm's that I let other shoot, the PPQ is the model most people pick as the model they like or shoot the best. Accuracy is right there with my Sig 226 as having exceptional accuracy. The trigger is one of the best on a striker fired gun that I have in a group of four.

The M&P is a pretty good model as well with a fairly comfortable grip and pretty good aftermarket support.

Of the 3 you mention, I like the PPQ the best. It has a very nice trigger. I do think that if you like those 3, you owe it to yourself to check out the H&K VP series. But of those 3 you named, I say Walther.

Enjoy

Spats McGee: Purpose is IPSC and steel challenge
redlightrich: VP's aren't available here.
BigJimP: Yeah, club membership and safe handling class were about $580. Plus another $85 for SSAA membership and about $300 for the license. I plan on shooting at least twice a month. btw there is no carry here. Dryfire in the shop is probably the best i can expect.

If you can, test shoot them all. The one that feels the best and shoots the best is the one that you take home. I have the PPQ as far as getting the holster and other stuff? You only have to buy it once it's not like you have to keep replacing it. I sold my glock for the PPQ and will never go back.
