which of the currently made saa clones are able to handle the original kieth loads that were developed with original SAA?

Can any of the new crop of reproductions use 300 grain bullets?

can any of them use steady diets of plated or jacketed slugs?

I would think all of them could. I know Uberti can but like with any hot load work up to it slowly and at the first sign of over pressure back off from it. Heavy bullets and jackets are not a problem. If you want to shoot really heavy loads get a Ruger old vaquero.

I second Mr Haggen's recommendation of a Ruger Vaquero. I've loaded a box or two of heavy bullet max loads and my Vaquero has shot them very well. Any load the Mr Keith worked up in a Colt SAA well be fine in a Vaquero, and probably even in a New Vaquero. The Vaquero is a large frame and the New Vaquero is a mid size frame. The New Vaquero is very close in size to the Colt SAA.

Only draw back is the fixed sights, so you need to apply a little Kentucky windage until you settle on a load. Then you can work the front blade for poi.

Jacketed bullets are no problem. Are you working up a hunting load?

Here's a Vaquero and a New Vaquero side by side.

i want something that can handle the standard 45 lc military load, the current low recoil cowboy ammunition, and in an emergency something that can handle big heavy bullets at reasonable velocity and chamber pressure that is saami spec.
Elmer kieth managed to do that with original Colt SAA so i want to know what clones can do so these days.

i know that ruger revolvers can do wonderful things with above saami pressures, i would like to have a normal true clone tho.

New Vaquero is a SAA clone with coil spring technology. Stronger than the original SAA.

Be very specific. Elmer Keith didn't use 300gr bullets in the Colt SAA and there are no famous "Keith loads" for the .45Colt. Except for the one time when he blew an old Colt. He didn't "keep" blowing cylinders, he blew one sixgun with a cutdown .45-70 bullet and a case full of blackpowder.

I would not run the replica .45's over 1000fps with 250-260gr cast bullets.

Colt's, New Vaquero's and USFA's can be pushed a little harder.
