Which one

Went to the lgs today. They had a Ruger P95 in well worn condition. They also had a Smith 910 LE trade in. It was even more holster worn than the Ruger. Both about the same price. The Smith had a much better da trigger pull. Which would be the better gun. It will be used as a house gun for a woman friend. If she doesn't like it, I will make it my beater gun. For the price of 3 bills it's hard to turn down.

Seconded.

IMHO the Smith & Wesson would be a better choice anyway, and the fact it's for a woman and has a better trigger just reinforces that opinion. However, the ONLY opinion that matters is the opinion of the person who will be using the gun, so I really think you should allow the lady to choose for herself.

Agreed.

Remember, if you wouldn't ask your woman friend to buy you a pair of shoes that you are going to wear to work everyday, don't buy her a gun that she may have to use any day.

Definitely the Smith, if you are concerned with the holster wear have it ceracoated fde or something more desired.

I've owned both. I have the Ruger now. Not really a dimes worth of difference except the way they feel in the hand. Well the Smith & Wesson is better looking.

Buy the one you like best, let the wife try it. If she doesn't like it, keep it for yourself (which I suspect is half the plan anyway), and get her something else.

Or buy both and you take the one she doesn't want.

It is going to be a gift. I stopped on the way home to look at something else and found these. I bought a S&W one time that looked something like this one. I also bought a BHP about the same time so I never had much use or liked the Smith so I sold it.
The gun is a gift for a girl who helps me a lot at my barn. I'd like to go back today and get it. Just wanted to do some research on it.
The reason I don't take her? She doesn't do well in a place like that. Too much to look at and too many stares. So she tends to stay away from public places and at the barn. Lucky me. I have a friend who has a store in a 1 car garage. 1 old man and about 30 guns to look at. We found her an SR22 there back in March. She says she is ready to move up and she shoots my Hi Power well. I thought BRIEFLY about letting her have my Hi Power. Nah.
So I'm leaning towards the Smith because of the trigger pull. What does a cerrakote cost vs rebluing?
As far as keeping it. If she doesn't want it, it will fit perfect in my mule or sell it. They also have a Range Officer which is what I went to look at. If I can get a good 2fer deal that will be great. I will report back tonite.

the 910
a 3rd gen smith is as good as it gets
if it doesnt have the fiber front sight, i can point you in the right direction
and as for holster wear...... if you only take it out of the holster to shoot it, youll never notice:p

$300 for a well worn p95 is too much. A couple of years ago when ruger was still making them they were only a little over $300 new. Now on the Smith I don't know the value.

Honestly, not a heck of a lot of difference between a P95 and a 910 aside from the poly -vs- steel alloy thing. The P95 is a few ounces lighter. Both guns are duty pistol class. I'd probably go with the 910 just because it's a little heavier (i.e. less perceived recoil). Also mags for the 3rd Gen Smith are plentiful and inexpensive.

BTW, the 910 is the value line of the 3rd Gen Smiths. 910's have more plastic (sights, guide rod, mag catch), no barrel lug, & no front guide rails for the slide. Personally, even though I have about 20 3rd Gen Smiths in one flavor or another, I don't have a 910.

None of it matters for a home-defense gun, however.
