A Beretta 92FS in 95% condition with 2-10rounders for $375 OR a NIB Taurus PT-92 with 1-15 and 1-10 rounder for $400 ? Is the Beretta really any better or is there just a premium paid for the name ?
THANKS!
The Taurus PT 92's and 99's were IN MY OPINION the best semi's Taurus ever made. Two in the family, one 92, one stainless 99, and no problems with any of 'em.
Also, I much prefer my safety on the frame, with a up-safe, down-fire setup.
I'd get the Beretta. Sure, you get one high cap with the Taurus, but you are also paying more. And when you want more high caps, you may have a little easier time finding some for the Beretta. You can also get nice surplus parts kits for the Beretta 92 for about $10.
Get the Beretta. I once had a Taurus 92 and it was the worst pistol I have ever had. It was reliable enough but the trigger pull was harder than any I have ever tried.
Tell the Baretta guy to throw in a 15 rounder....when he says no, walk slowly to the door....I bet he says "wait" by the time you hit the cleaning supplies....
That life time warranty would be awful tempting to me. I haven't had any problems with the newer Taurus handguns. They have really made some big improvements in quality control and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one.
As stated above, I would offer $375 for the Taurus. In my part of the country even $400 with a Hi Cap thrown in would be a great deal.
Both are good weapons, but I would surely hate to get the Beretta only to have a frame crack or something major go wrong without a warranty. There is always a possibility of the previous owner being a wacko with a reloading press. And for you reloaders...don't get a hissy over that comment!!! I'm talking about the guy who wants to get 10mm performance out of a 9! Until I moved and had to sell my equipment I used to reload, and I'm not a wacko..or am I?..hmmmmm
Would you rather feel like the slide was rolling on ball bearings, or running across a gravel road at 90 miles an hour. If you are like me and would go for a smooth ride, GET THE BERETTA!!!!
Personally, I was never a huge fan of the M9, but when comparing it to the Taurus, I would say there is no comparison. The amount of care put into the Berettas seems a bit more.
At gun shows here I've seen NIB Beretta 92FS's for $425 with 2 10 round mags. I'd sure rather buy a new one than one with an unknown history. Good luck whichever you get. I personally love Beretta's quality and don't know much about Taurus. Lube it right (locking blocks included) and it'll last you a long time.
I already made that decision and voted with my pocket book.
After handling a PT 99 and an FS92 side by side, I bought the Beretta. Fit, finish and feel were clearly superior.
As for the warranty? I tend to look at it as more marketing hype than reality. Had a NIB Taurus M85 that took three months and three trips to the factory before it would reliably fire. If Taurus has made improvements in their quality control, it hadn't hit as of Decemeber 2000.
