Extremely difficult to throw even a price range on guns of that vintage as condition truly is everything and the difference between 90% and 99% can be a twofold jump in "price."

"Price" is the other genuine problem we have... price can be MANY different things.

Top price is what an extremely rare and high grade gun will get in an auction, where only well-funded collectors pay to play. It's a fancy, fun number, but it's rare that you find guns that will fit this level of "price."

A tier down would be the top price that extremely knowledgeable dealers would price a gun at, and there's no telling when a gun priced as such would sell.

Another tier down would be the kind of price you might get if you marketed the gun in a place where hardcore and knowledgeable collectors can buy or bid on it. That would be the highest dollar that someone who knows very little about these guns could hope or expect to get. And a tier down from that would be the same guy selling, but his buyer is not a collector but rather a dealer who knows that "value" of the gun in question.

And further down the scale in dollars would be what you might actually get for the gun if you don't have the skill and experience to find out EXACTLY what you have and have the eye and skill to properly grade it... a task that a novice cannot do well and a task that frankly costs money for a professional to do.

If you are looking at a list of available guns and you wish to invest...

Your best best might be to look up the same guns on Gunbroker and if you elect to do that, IGNORE the prices that are asked and instead run searches for closed and past auctions to see how they actually sold.

Apologies -- I know you were looking for the quick and easy answer.

My descending order of collectibility/value:

S&W M27-2, Nickel, 8⅜", Retro Grips

S&W M25-2 (1955), 6.5"

S&W TR 22-4, 4" Thunder Ranch

S&W M625-8, 5.5"

S&W M646, 4", Titanium Cylinder

S&W M627-5, 5", V8

S&W M686-8, PP 6" Power Port

S&W M627-5, 4.5" V-Comp

S&W M27-8, 5" Registered Magnum - (No such thing - original Registered Magnums were pre-M27's, if S&W's now selling repro RM's, they're as collectible as Beanie Babies)

IMO, the 27-2, the 25-2, and the 646 are the most desirable of those on your list. PetahW is correct about the 27-8 "Registered Magnum".
