Coonan 357 mag or 1911 10 mm.

Gun would be open carry woods gun.

I reload .

I have about 3000 bullets for 357 . Copper jacketed projectiles.
Also all 3 or r different bullet types of molds . And 2 sets of dies for 357 .

But 10 mm hold 3 more rounds per clip.

Also I shotot 45 and love it. But 357 mag in 2in barrel self defense is fine . But do not enjoy shooting to much recall . Will the 10 mm be to much recall to enjoy shooting.

That's a tough one........... I have a Kimber 10mm.

After some thought, I'm thinking 10mm. Going from memory, pretty sure I can push a heavy bullet faster with the 10mm, which is what I would use for woods carry. I may be wrong, but even if I am, I KNOW how fast I can push a 180gr bullet in 10mm Auto, and I CAN easily move to a 200gr bullet in 10mm Auto. I would also have 3 more rounds of wallop in a lighter, easier to carry gun that easier to find holsters/magazines for.

Just my $.02

How big are your hands? A Coonan may not fit your hand. A 10mm 1911 will.
Even though the 10mm isn't as big a deal as it lets on. Feels like a heavy bullet .45 recoil wise. Not at all ugly. It was an Delta Elite when they first came out. Fit my short buy wide hand ok. Kind of unimpressive otherwise.

+1. Take a look at some ballistics charts; full-power 10mm has ME that's roughly comparable to .357Mag (~700 fpe). It's NOT the beast that some claim.

Contrary to what you may have heard around the LGS counter, it's NOT as powerful or heavy-recoiling as .44Mag or particularly .41Mag, to which it's often fatuously compared.
