I'm trying to decide on a weapon that will be used mostly as a backup gun and need some input, I've searched and read and searched again. My employer mandates that the weapon NOT be seen, this restricts methods of carry and I'll probably go with an ankle rig. I can conceal any of the listed options. I have no real preference between calibers although my primary weapon is a Gov't .45, okay in the winter but harder to conceal in those hot southern summers although it can be done.

I'm pretty much leaning toward a Glock in one of these flavors:

26 - 9mm
27 - .40
29 - 10mm
36 - .45

I am not a fan of the 30, I've owned two...we won't go there.

Opinions?

I voted G27.

G29 and G36 are both a bit much for ankle/pocket carry.

G27 over G26 was a personal call; if 9mm works fine, then .40 ain't gonna work any worse, y'know what I mean? ;)

Personally, I have the G33. :)

Vote for the 27 w/the carry method. I have one & love it. Does everything you could ask of a sub-compact. If you were to go with an IWB I'd say 36 or 27.

Yeah, I voted for the G27 also.

I just love mine. It was the second concealed carry pistol I purchased. I know some people say some of these short barrel pistols are "tack drivers", but my 27 really is. It's been a humbling experience to be out shot by my "natural shot" wife every time we go to the range, however my G27 makes me look better than I am. (When I can get it away from her!) Hey, there's a Valentine idea. Maybe I should buy her a Glock all her own. How about it ladies? Good idea??
Sheesh, Jack. I just realized I stepped on your thread. I apologize.

Given those choices, I voted Glock 26

However, if the Kahr MK9 was on the poll, that would have gotten my vote.

Jack, of the choices you list in your poll, I voted for the G26, since a gun that small, and that light, would be difficult to control in .40, rather than being just a tad inconvenient in 9.

If you're willing to consider alertatives, try taking a look at a Kahr MK9 or MK40, which is smaller than the Glock, but would seem to be easier to shoot, given it's greater weight to absorb the recoil. Still others like the KelTec P32 (.32ACP) or P11 (9mm), but they are not manufactured nearly as nicely as the Kahr. Also popular is the NAA Guardian .380, but most people consider that to be the absolute minimal caliber for self defense, verging on inadequate.

My vote is to shoot first and conduct polls later. :)

Seriously, a poll will get the most popular opinion, but not nec. the best one for you, in the situation you'd use it in. Why not go over to Glocktalk and ask for some folks in your area to let you shoot theirs?

There's no place for a G19, so I didn't vote. :D

I'm not sure any of the mini-Glocks satisfy the requirements for really deep concealment. They aren't exactly mouse guns, after all.

That said, I would choose the G27.

Tough it up and BE A MAN! think G-35 and "wet carry"!:D

Seriously, all the Glocks are too big for comfortable ankle carry IMHO and I don't like the idea of kneeling down in front of someone who's trying to hurt me anyway.

Since you like 45's and already have one I'd suggest you try out a G-36 if possible (lot of people don't like the muzzel flip) and consider IWB carry with maybe a bit of a well thought out new wardrobe to go with it.

If you don't like the G-30, then why are you considering the G-29? It feels exactly the same as the 30 but kicks more. Given your constraints I said G-27. I own one and like it a lot, but don't like an ankle rig.

Mikie, my issue surrounding the 30 isn't related to it's ergonomics. I shoot it well actually. I'm not adverse to recoil and the 29 seems like a good option in the concealable hand cannon catagory. It's a possibility.

I'll have to second Erik's comments.

You may find a baby glock is an awfully big baby once you have one strapped to your ankle for any length of time.

That said, and given your choices, what is your primary weapon? If its a Glock can you select based on magazine/ammo interchangeability? I carry a 23 primary so I selected the 27.

However, after trying it awhile I bought a Kahr and a KelTec. The KelTec P32 works great for deep cover.

I voted 36 cause its a 45 which is the best of the lot IMO. I dont think you're talking deep concealment though. Either concealment if primary, or backup if a 2nd piece.

Deep concealment to me means 3rd gun. Which would be for me a FA 22 mini-revolver, soon to be filled with tracers cause the 22 needs all the help it can get!
