Which new rifle should I go for?

Im in the market for a new, "higher end" rifle. I have boiled it down to 4 that I really like. ($ not an issue, already have a higher end AR build and i dont want another) I have done extensive research on each and every one of these and the ACR is the only one that has a few "iffy" reviews. Just want some thoughts

Bushy ACR
FN2000
Springfield M1A (scout)
Barret m99 .50BMG

I really had good luck with Browning Medallions. The quality was excellent as also the accuracy. Also try the Savage Classic series. If you have more money go for a high-end Weatherby ;)

From your list:

Definitely the Springfield M1A.

But if you have money enough, why not consider a real long range rifle?

If I had unlimited money I would build the best custom long range sniper rifle money could get, something that at 1600yards you can drive softballs.

barret m99 would be the best choice you could make, since your not concerned about money then you wont have to worry about the $5 a round ammo. Just make sure you wear some good hearing protection and make sure to wear a football type pad on your shoulder because this thing is a beast up to a mile from what I heard:eek::cool:

If you want a larger caliber "higher end" rifle and $ are not an issue you may want to consider something from the Holland & Holland or Rigby range of rifles.:D

Also Id like to mention that the .50 bmg's are pretty darn heavy to carry around but I can only imagine you will use it just for target shooting at your LARGE farm or Unusual range(most ranges dont have an extremely long distance place to shoot your rifle,I wouldnt buy one in my opinion if I wasnt planning on shooting past 1000 yards because another nice high end rifle will work almost that far without spending several thousand dollars.Im not telling you to not buy it,Id suggest you go buy it and have alot of fun, just letting you know how I feel about that gun :) .Im not hurting for money either but i've noticed that target shooting can get boring after so much shooting at targets due to the fact its the same thing over and over again. I could afford such rifle but I have no use for it, I would think if you were deer or hog hunting with the barrett,I wouldnt doubt you would get a softball size hole in the poor critter! . Good Luck and I hope you make the best decision.

I was in a similar debate for a higher end semi-auto rifle myself a year ago.

I ended up buying a MSAR E4 in 223 which is a Steyr Aug clone.

Around the same time I purchased the Springfield M1A scout squad, where I mounted a Sadlak scope mount on it and a cheek riser on the stock.

I dont regret any of my purchases but I wouldve done it very differently should I have thought about it more instead of being impulsive.

I wouldve purchased a Les Baer .223 AR-15 and a FN FNAR .308 win. Both are A++ grade rifles for competition or hunting. Very versatile.

My MSAR E4 is a great gun but it is 10lbs for a compact bullpup rifle with a 10+lb trigger pull. I wouldnt take it to war, thats for sure. It 100% needs a forward assist on the bolt. You cannot baby the charging handle at all, otherwise you'll never seat the round. Good point is that it is 1.5" MOA with a 1x-4x scope.

My M1A scout squad is a so-so gun. It will not accept medium loads in 150gr. It just wont cycle. Also since I strapped on a pretty good grade Sadlak aluminum scope mount, every 25rounds or so, one of the brass rounds ejects under the mount and jams the bolt as it is riding forward. Unreliable at best when thinking it is going to save your life in a firefight. BEST accuracy I was able to squeeze out of this rifle was 3" MOA with handloads. If I want it to be a sub 1" MOA rifle, Im going to spend $1,000+ on modifications.

Les Baer threads the rifling on the barrel ONE AT A TIME! thats awesome!

FN FNAR guarantees sub 1" MOA!!!!! Return it if it doesnt!

M1a scout. Why the scout why not go with a regular m1a or a match? My M14 eats any ammo light or heavy, brass or steel. my indoor range ammo is 147gr steel fmj, outdoor is 160gr jhp and hunting is 180gr SP. if the ammo doesn't cycle, tighten the gas nut. My only problem is I had a cracked receiver and I had to get my bolt guts tuned, had a number of misfires, but for its age it was time for an over haul. The gunsmith said the receiver was cracked because metal fatigue. I'm good open sights to 600 yards. I have seen the match m1as got to 1000 yards. The m1a rifles love getting dirty and thrown around and will keep on ticking.

"ive decided to go with a SA M1A Scout with a synthetic stock"

I got the 16" version a couple of months ago. I have found loads it shoots nicely and have probably fired it 400 times or so. I love it.
