I already have a KMK-512 (stainless with 5.5" barrel), and I am going to buy a second Ruger MK II soon.

Which model do you think would make a good compliment to my current KMK-512?

I'm considering the following models:

Standard (short barrel and durable fixed sights make it a decent outdoors pistol--plus I like the looks of it--reminds me of a Luger)

Target

22/45 4" barrel

22/45 5.5" barrel

Every answer is right, don't be shy on opinions. :)

While I like the MkII (I have two), why not buy a different .22 for variety, such as the S&W 617, the Beretta 87 Target, or the forthcoming Beretta U22 Neos?

^I don't like the S&W. I do like the Beretta, but I'm not confident in the alluminum alloy frame of the Cheetah. I'd consider the Beretta, but only after seeing some hard evidence of its durability.

I currently have the 6&7/8" bull barrelled MkII and a 4" 22/45. I used to own a 5.5" MkII. By far my favorite is that 4 incher. The balance is great and there is no accuracy lost over the longer barrels.

.22/45 in either barrel length. I liked mine (5.5 inch) so much I bought a second one ;). Truth is I ran so many rounds through the first one I retired it. I liked shooting it so much though that I bought another one.

Or.
None of the above.

Get a CZ Kadet or a Kadet .22 Upper for a CZ75b. The Kadet upper I bought for my 75b is great!

the 22/45 525 has operated flawlessly for me... it's more accurate than I am and has all the controls "where a handgun is supposed to have em" and I think I remember someone here saying that "they are built from the metal of old tanks and are indestructable...." well.... I'm not sure about that... but they seem to be pretty indestructable.... Love it...

I'd buy again.... maybe after a P22 though.... I'm still very intrigued by that gun.... wish the availability was better

I'd love to have a CZ Kadet .22. However, I'm not sure that its legal in Kalifornia? We have the stupid "safe list" and unless a handgun is on the list we can't buy it. So far, the Kadet is not on the list. I'm not sure if one can even buy the Kadet conversion unit? I've been given conflicting opinions at various gunstores when I asked this question.

Kadets in Kalifornia

I think the safety list only applies to guns that require an FFL transfer. I'm told that the frame requires an FFL, but not the other components.

FWIW, I've seen those Cienar conversion kits for sale, and they are definitely not on the list. You are also supposed to be able to order the Kadet without an FFL transfer. Lots of gun dealers aren't too clear on the rules anyway, so I'd say go with the path of least resistance.

The 5.5" bull barreled Mk II is nice but big and heavy. You might want to think about something smaller and lighter that would be easy to take on hikes or camping. The P-4 comes to mind.

^The P-4 is high on my list. I like the smaller barrel size to complement my 5.5".

Does anyone have the stainless steel 22/45 that has the 4.75" barrel and fixed sights? KP-4? That model looks appealing to me...
