Which mag is which.

This is my week for magazine questions. To many kinds of mags for different 45's.

I own 3 45's. A Baby Eagle, Rem R1, and now my new Les Baer Concept Vi. The Eagle has two types of double stack mags, 8 & 10 rounders, the Rem is mostly Chip Mccormicks with a couple of Rem mags & then the Baer.

The Eagle mags don't interchange with the others & I want to know 8 or 10 when I grab one.

I have just finished my 400 rounds of break-in on the Baer during which the Rem Mags would not funtion in the Baer. I just did the cleaning on the Baer and on my way back to the range. I will see if being clean and broke in makes it possible to use the Rem & Mccormick mags in it.

So now; after all the above, listing my problems which might be common to all pistol owners, How do you identify which mag works in which gun.

I have tried fingernail polish on the magazinebutt plates but it comes off after a while. I used a vibrating etching tool on the butt. Works but hard to see. Filled the etching with white nail polish and then wiped off the polish. Better but not tidy enough for the Baer.

How does everyone else identify their mags

I use a silver Sharpie to mark the base plates on my mags. The Mecgar black mags I mark on the side. It is not perfect but it does work.

Pardon my ignorance, but aren't the Remington and Les Baer of the 1911 design?

My McCormick 1911 mags fit in any 1911 i own.

8 rounders are 'normal' and barely stick out bottom.

10 rounders stick out bottom of all of my 1911s.

There are 8 rounders for compact (officers) grips that stick out on the compact frame like a 10 rounder does on gi frame.

I know i must be missing something as i am confused about how someone is able to confuse a double-stack mag with a single dtack mag.

If they are all doibke-stacjs, then it is also relatively easy: 1911 mags with 1911s, non-1911 mag with mag research.

Short 1911 mag with short (grip) 1911. Or swap at will.

If you really have to keep them straight, sharpie is ik, but just engrave name on baseplate with pencil etcher.

Double stack vs single is easy to see...

If you really want to keep the mags separate.../ they might have followers in them that are a little different...-- so just note which is which.../ or you could change the base pads / bumper pads to a different shape or color I suppose if you're really worried about it...

( or throw them all away and buy some Wilson Combat mags ..) ...
