Which mag extension for 870?

Delmont

I'm buying a magazine extension for my HD 870, and I need some advice. I noticed that Brownells carries the Choate, Tacstar, and Scattergun Tech extensions. All are about the same in price.

Is either significantly better than the others? My guess is "no", since it's just a simple tube, but if anyone has any advice to share, I would love to hear it before I place an order.

BTW, I'm buying a 2 shot extension.

Thanks

I've used all three. A +3 Choate, A +6 Tacstar, and a Scattergun Tech +2. I dont see a practical difference in any of them. Never had a problem with any of them.

I had started off with a TacStar on my 11/87. The tube body had a tendency to back out of the threaded collar that attaches the mag to the gun. It was the extended mag that increased capacity to 9 +1 rounds total. Pounding it back into the collar wasn't too big of a deal but the problem persisted every time I went out to shoot the shotgun. I had even tried some anaerobic super glues but they didn't work either.

I had taken it off and replaced it with Choate's extended mag and have not had any problems with it.

Have never tried Scattergun's.

Addendum :

The knurling of the collar of the TacStar is very shallow to the point of being useless. With the limited amount of travel you have to screw the mag on (due to the barrel), it could be, as it was for me, difficult to mount the mag on tightly. The Choates have a better gripping surface for grasping the collar.

Judging from Remington's website and their PDF format parts and price list, it looks like they are selling factory extensions to the public again...I bought a couple on AuctionArms, and they are a lot nicer than aftermarket ones...the nut ain't so hot, but grippy and does the job...

pronunciation?

Hi, just wondering what the proper pronunciation is for Choate?
Is it "choat" like in "billy goat"?
Or "Ko-ah-tee"?
I've been saying it the second way because I think it sounds cooler. :)
