Which Kydex Holster for a G26

Well, I am going to a gunshow this weekend and I am thinking of getting a concealment holster for my G26. I am wondering if a Kydex holster is comfortable to wear. By looking at it I would think it would be comfortable next to your skin. I am in-between forbus, sidearmor, and uncle mikes. I tend to keep the gun with a round in the chamber so I care a lot about safety (any advice). Also I seen some of them like uncle mikes and forbus come in a padded version, what is the advantages to this and wouldn't it make it thicker? Also some have loops that attach to your belt while others have a clip are they interchangeable.

What is a good ammo for my gun (G26) I have heard a lot about carbon and gold dots? I really dont care about saving money in the price I just want to know when I pull the trigger the BG will go down.

Thanks
James

The two that I recommend, in order of my preference, are Ky-Tac BraveHeart IWB and Sidearmor IWB. The former is about $70, and the latter is about $60. The BraveHeart has no sharp edges at all, and when worn next to the skin, is the most comfortable. Its profile is also slightly thinner.

The best place to order the BraveHeart is from SKDTAC: http://www.skdtac.com/

You can also order direct from David Elderton at Ky-Tac: http://hometown.aol.com/KYTAC/index.html

If you order from Ky-Tac directly, you may be in for a long wait. Chances are that SKDTAC will have one in stock.

Hey Liquid,
I have an Uncle Mike's 5312-1 R.H. that's new-in-box, you can have for $14. (I paid $20.) I guess I'm stuck on leather..

I highly recommend the "Undercover" holster from www.comp-tac.com. For $35, and great comfort, you can't go wrong. That's what I have been using with my G26 for months now. It also comes with an allen wrench to you can adjust the tension. Below is a pic of it.

I second the vote on the Ky-Tac Braveheart. Wonderful holster...a sure winner. I use it for my SIG 225, and it can't be beat.

I faced the same questions as you are now only a few months ago, and the Kydex IS comfortable. I have a Sidearmor for my G27 and my G30 Glocks.

The Sidearmor is cool because you can change Cant angles and go from J-hooks to Belt loops for $5 each instead of having to buy more holsters, you just change the attachment.

If you wear it next to your skin IWB, it sweats a little at times, but no big deal. If that bothers you, you can wear an undershirt.

BTW Fobus is not Kydex, it is some form of Plastic.

Hey Brian,

Don't worry about which self-defense ammo to use in your G26. 9mm ammo does very well out of a short barrel. Any of the more common ammo will do just fine. I use Glod Dot 124 grain +P ammo in my G26, but there are a lot of great loads out there.

You aren't going to like my answer about the best holster, cause there isn't one! Differences in body type, clothing styles, and method of carry are going to dictate which holster is best FOR YOU. Most of use have a "holster drawer" full of holsters we've tried before finding one that is right for each of us.

Many people recommend Sidearmor because their holsters are very well-made and their customer service is excellent. However, that doesn't mean that their holster will be right for you! I have a Sidearmor that just doesn't quite feel right on me. Unfortunately, gunshows don't usually have a good selection of holsters to try on, so it tends to be a crap shoot.

The Fobus and Uncle Mike's holsters are CHEAP and inexpensive. They are great if you are just starting out, but you'll want a quality holster eventually.

BTW, getting a good belt is as important as getting a good holster.

Hope this helps,
Gino

Boy, how true a statement Gino, and unfortunately one that is overlooked alot. A good holster won't mean squat without a good quality belt.

comp-tac

Brian,

I have a comp-tac shirt tucker that I bought several months ago and I just love it. It can be worn IWB,OWB or IWB with your shirt tucked in over it. This holster is the bext for total concealment I have found. I can tuck a t-shirt in over it and it does not print.

I also took a piece of dark grey felt with an adhesive on one side and put it on the outside of the holster that is against your side. It makes it very comfortable to wear.

Oh yea it was only $44.00!!!

Gino is right. You have to have a good belt. For a cheap but good holster consider the Glock belt slide. There is no other holster which will hold the G26 as close to your body as the Glock holster.

Another vote for Sidearmor...recently picked up a Sidearmor IWB for my Glock 21, and am in love with it - it's actually as comfy as my leather pancake OWB holsters! Conceals quite well, too.
