Which Kahr?

I am thinking of possibly buying a 9mm Kahr. A gunshop not too far away sells K9, other models should be ordered from the USA (I live in Finland). I definitely want to buy the right model in the first place since trading for another Kahr model would not be too easy here.

Now, should I buy that K9 or ask to order a P9, MK9 or E9? Please give advice on possible differences in shootability, accuracy, reliability, concealability etc. Differences in tentency for limp wrist problems? I have small hands so grip size is not a big issue.

Also, if you were buying a Kahr now, which model would you choose and why?

A Kahr is not a target gun. It's more or less aim with the front sight and shoot within 10-15 yards. With that in mind, concealability is the next issue. Well, it's not really an issue with the Kahr line of pistols hehe. I personally like the MK9 because I can shove it right in my pocket. If you wear it IWB, it totally disappears.

I own the K9 and K40.I perfer the 9mm alittle more, doesnt beat me as much.I perfer a 3 fingered grip so the MK's are out for me.I just sold a P9 in our store.I like it alot, but have not yet fired one.I dont think you can go wrong with any Kahr,my picks would be the K9 and P9. SHOKz

Hi Ossi!! Long time no see!!! I have the MK9, but I also have it for concealed carry. I don't think that is very important to you and if it is you can probably still conceal a standard size Kahr since it tends to get a bit cooler in Finland than it does in Texas. In your case I would go with the K9 or P9, if weight is important, with the Elite trigger group.

I tend to agree with ArmySon (hi, Son) on this one. I don't particularily like the Kahr line because it is internally striker fired with no repeat strike capability. Despite this, the MK9 is my primary everyday carry gun because it is accurate, reliable and MAINLY because of it's small size. If I were to carry something bigger, than it would either be a Sig P239 or a S&W 3913 not a K9. But, then again, this is just my personal feelings on the matter as there are others look prefer the smooth DAO feature that the K9 has to offer -- for me, I prefer the traditional DA/SA design when ever possible. As the saying goes, "different strokes for different folks". Listen to what everyone has to say and then look at what your particular needs are and decide from there.

I like either the K9 or K40 best. To me, the slight increase in concealibility that you gain with the smaller versions isn't a good tradeoff for the lost controllability and ammo capacity.

To an extent, I agree with the above posts about the MK9 less than optimal. I fired a qualification course with it using +P loads (Triton, so they would be +P+ by other standards) and had no real problem . . . until I took a break and started shooting again. My hand was shaking a bit. The MK9 is a little too small for long-term shooting. It's a great CCW piece and go anywhere gun but not something that I would take for target work or training.

If target shooting is the sole concern, get something better. Kahrs are nothing, and were never intended as anything, but full power CC pieces.

So far the Kahr K9 Elite is my favorite all around hand gun. It's accurate, great trigger, shoots +P,3 finger grip, concealable and, with the exotic wooden grips,an extremely good looking weapon. Plus if you really want to be hip you can shave your head and make believe you're Shaft. :D

Go ahead and buy the K9. It really is the best of the breed. If you had the choice of an E9 and a K9, I feel the that the E9 is the better value. You're giving up a little initial smoothness in the trigger, for a LOT of money to buy ammo with. But, since it would be a hassle to order, get the K. You won't regret it. :)

I bought a k40 for power, and a p9 for corrosion resistance in summer ccw. Are you carrying concealed? This makes all the difference...

If you're going to be carrying this gun every day, go with the P9. The weight difference is amazing! If you're not, go with the E9, you'll save yourself about 100$(USD) even after buying a second magazine.

Thanks for replies to everyone. I will soon take a hollyday and also visit the gunshop that adverticed K9. Might see other possibilities also, since during my hollydays I visit nearly every possible gunshop in places I travel (while my wife says it's boring to wait me in gunshops).

FUD's comment made me think about one negative point in Kahrs I hadn't noticed, namely no second strike possibility from the trigger if the first doesn't ignite the primer. Had some problems with a Glock 19 and hard primed local mil-spec ammo years ago. I though DAO action meant that Kahr's trigger always moves the striker, but that isn't the case then. Must think about this.

If you have a misfire you'd probably be better served by chambering a new round. In my experience, rounds that didn't go off the first time only fire a small percentage of the time on subsequent firing pin stikes.

As for which Kahr to own, I own and carry a K9 and a MK9 and love them both.
