Which is the better sub $200 dollar .22 LR handgun

.22

I'm ignoring the OP's question. I suggest you look at the Beretta Neos, They are very close to the price quoted. The reliability of the one I have is simply astounding. In well over 1500 rounds I've had exactly one misfire. No jams, no burps, no anything - just one dud round with a strong firing pin mark but no "bang". And the dud round was one of 375 rounds fired Thursday in one session by four people shooting the Neos. I've had many .22 pistols but not one semi-auto as reliable as the Beretta. Ugliest pistol on earth but if function is considered an aspect of beauty, then it's a beautiful pistol. Your mileage may vary.

Of the 2, the "Rough Rider" is the better choice, but there are several used .22s that are better choices that fall in the price range.

I like my Heritage-a LOT! So, I don't think you'll go wrong buying one of them.

I also found a Ruger Single-Six (three screw) for well under $200 out the door. IF you need one like, today-- the Rough Rider is a good one. If you care to do some searching, you can find some bargains out there. Either way, you should do okay. My .02.

Really depends on what the intended use is for? Is it strictly for the range/plinking etc.? If so, the revolver looks like a very good choice/deal (never shot that particular brand before but have similar models from competing vendors and they were fine SA shooters with nice groups).

Conversely, if it's mostly going to be for SD (BUG or the like), obviously the Phoenix is the route to pursue--granted it's a pot metal gun but I literally challenge anyone to find a better little pot-metal mouse-gun on the market ;). For the money, the HP22A is as good as a cheap little semi will ever get hands-down!

As others have mentioned (and again depending on the primary use of the gun), there are actually quite a few .22lr shooters out there <$200.

-Cheers

The Rough Rider ain't bad, but I think I'd look for a used Harrington & Richardson. In my experience they're close to that price and a pretty good shooters.

If it is needed for more than range look at a different caliber.

I guess I am not following that...

.22 Rimfire...One of the oldest surviving metallic cartridge calibers in the world, is now only suitable for 'the range'?

The Rough Rider is barely a step above junk.
The HP22 is quite a bit worse than that.

Shop around, and find a good deal on something used. (Like a Sig Mosquito, Beretta Neos, Browning Buckmark, Ruger Mk-series, Bersa Thunder, or even a Sterling.)

If you're absolutely set on one of those two handguns, get the Rough Rider.

I wouldnt bother with anything in that price range. Someone gave me a Phoenix 25 cal (in the $200 range) and I cant give it away (FFL's). The cheapest quality 22 you will find is the NEOS. Fantastic shooter thats very reliable. Other thouts would be a used gun or just wait till you can scrounge another $50.

There is always someone who will find something bad about any gun, The hp22 is a good gun to plink around with, cheaply made yes.I bought my first one 18 yrs. ago and used cci stingers and broke the slide.I got it repaired free and started using standard velosity like the gun called for. Never a problem sence then. Heritage I have owned one for over 20 yrs. and hunt squirrel with it,not anywhere the quality of my ruger ss but I collect squirrels when I use it. Some guns are made to be altered these to are not, remember you get what you pay for,,good luck on whatever choice you make.:)

Between those 2 I would go with the Heritage. But for $200 I would look for a used S&W 22a. New you should find them about $250, and I see them on occasion for around $199 used.

Best f the value priced 22lr IMHO
