Which Is The Better Deal?

I have two different friends selling handguns for different reasons (baby and finances). Both pistols are in 95+% condition, both have been fired about 300 times, and both are approximately the same age. The first is a third generation Glock 23 in .40 with two ten round mags for $325.00. The second is an H&K USP in 9mm with two ten round mags for $350.00. Both guns have been well cared for and I have no caliber or brand bias. I can afford only one. Which is the better deal, and why? Thank you in advance for any input.

kstoneking, my first response is to buy both of them. But I guess you would, if you could. Then I would say ask to shoot both of them at the local range and then decide. Both guns are excellent, but VERY different in their own right. They handle very differenly as for feel and action. What's a better deal? well, that's up to you.
300 times being fired, Geez, they are brand new. That's nothing in the life of a gun. Good luck. Let us know what you get.:)

I like both, but

if finanical restrictions prevent you from
acquiring both; then I would opt for the
H&K, for one reason. The H&K holds it's
resale value better than the Glock.

As I stated, both are excellent weapons
and I would certainly hate to make that
choice, myself. In fact, it may boil down
to what your intended purpose is for the
weapon of choice? For instance, if for
CCW the Glock would be more compact.
Last, but certainly not least you got to
figure the cost of ammunition; if you don't
roll your own. .40's generally are more
expensive than 9m/m's.

I'd go with the Glock. But then again, Glock's design isn't for everyone. Neither is the 40S&W cartridge. Luckily, I like both Glock and 40S&W. If you are the same way, then go with the Glock, and scrounge up some high caps when you can.

I own the Glock and prefer it to the USP, but you asked which is the better deal. The Glock 23 NIB sells for around $449, maybe as low as $429 in Texas. The USP goes for over $500, therefore the price difference from new to used is greater on the USP making it the better deal. If that is what you base your purchases on I certainly hope that you just happen to shoot the USP better and that it fits your hand better.

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. To clarify a little, I have shot both of these pistols and like the way they feel. I must admit that I am leaning towards the Glock because I already have a G19 so my holsters will fit the G23. Also having the G19 I already have a 9mm and I don't have anything in .40. But, to further muddy the waters, I can buy a NIB G23 for $398.00 plus tax at any time and I know the H&K would cost me way more than that if I bought it new. Decisions, decisions.:)

I have owned both and both are good deals for the prices stated but I would say go with the Glock. If you don't buy it let me know who and I will!

Forget about the Best Dealand buy the one you like the most and enjoy! The deal part will soon be forgotten.

The H&K is certainly the better 'deal'

as Jeff pointed out. It's also nice to have a DA/SA pistol to have some practice with. I do give some merit to the fact that you are familiar with the Glock, and all your leather is compatible. Therefore, it would make an excellent choice as a stand-in, or spare gun for carry should your G19 go down, need work or whatever.

I assume the USP is the full size and not the compact. I would go for the USP either full size or compact. I traded a USP compact and got around $550 for it. The price you can pick it up for is a very cheap one.

Nothing against glocks (I like them OK) but I would stay away for the 40 in them. plunker

Buy the H&K for the simple reason that it is the best deal at $350.

You should always be able to find another Glock for $325-350 in the future. I doubt that you'll find an H&K that easily.

Go with the USP. Seems like a better deal. You rarely see used USPs for sale and at $350 that's a GOOD deal.
Glocks can be found pretty regularly and usually with hi caps.
Go HK!

Financially speaking, both are good deals. (Both guns should look darn near new if only 300 rounds have truly been put through them.) The HK is farther under current market value, though.

Unless you have a 9mm phobia or need a more compact gun for CCW purposes, I'd take the USP.

I would go with the HK but you need to go with what fits you best. Choosing a gun is a very personal decision.

Hmmm. I think I'd buy the USP, to help out friend #1, turn around and sell it for $400 to one of the guys here, and then buy the Glock! :D
