which harris bipod??

Now that I have the basic rifle/scope combo up and
functional, I need to start getting accessories. One of
the first I want is a harris bipod. The thing is that
there seems to be a zillion of them. I want the
smallest version, height wise (6-9in I think), that
will fit the little knobs with the horizontal holes
in my LTR. Which version is that and does it require
any additional hardware? Thanks...

I have the L(s) for my Rem 700 VS.

I have the L (s) for my 700 and it would work great for nearly all bench type applications. I use the Model 25 (s) for hunting. Whatever you do, make sure you get the (s) model. That swivel action is great for any non level shooting you might do. Unless you are on a bench, that means you do a lot.

You can get the benchrest model which is the shortest one, but I think the L would be a better choice. It gives you a little more height when you are not on the bench, but not too much.

So, what the length on the L model? I think
the BR model is 6-9in...

BTW, El Rojo, did you see the first range report
I posted...

I picked up a Model L S. It goes from 9" to 13", which makes it great for both the field and the bench. 9" to 13" is their most popular length. What shooting position were you planning on using the bipod for?

Hmm, I suppose bench and prone...as opposed to sitting/standing where a much taller bipod would
be needed.

I plan on entering tactical matches so I chose a 9-12 inch Harris with swivel. As well, the legs are notched every inch or so, so that you can adjust them separately for really screwed up terrain. The legs on this model pop out rather than retract when the li'l button is pushed.

A quality bipod will not wobble, is light, adjustable, and sturdy. I think the Harris fist all of these.

You get what you pay for.

With the Harris, you get what you pay for. Buy a cheaper bipod, get a cheaper bipod. If you get two Harris bipods, the L(s) and the 25(s), you will never need to buy another set in your lifetime. I highly recomment the 9-13 model L. I think the 6-9 is just too short for anything off of the bench. And for bench shooting you wouldn't need a (s) [swivel] model.

I have the regular Model L(s) that has the legs that spring in and not the notch version. I would see how the notch version would be quicker to deploy to higher length, but I am not sure if they can be tightened down outside of the prearanged notches. The model L non-notched can be adjusted to any length you want between 9-13".

Get a model L(s). I don't think you will be disappointed. They are well worth it.

By the way, I just looked at your bipod from Cheaper Than Dirt. Note that the Harris springs into extended postion, giving you a very solid rest. The other bipod swiveled into position and it appears that you must tighten down the legs in order to get it to hold still. I would not waste my money on that POS. Of course this is my opinion and others might tell me I am wrong. I know Harris bipods, I love em. If anyone else has better options, I would like to hear it as well.

I have the model that adjusts to 25" (the sitting model). I find that it makes for a very comfortable sitting rest in a tall grass or low underbrush situation. It's useless for benchrest, but then again I have the bench for that!

El Rojo: I'm a firm believer in buying quality ... I just don't like to pay more, just for grins ... It sounds like the Harris units really are quality. That is not always true in sporting goods ... back when I was in school, one of the material science labs on campus built up a series of very nice bike frames out of titanium and tried to recuperate the cost of the materials by selling them for materials cost (approx $150) at a local bike shop (in Davis, CA ... a big bike town!) they sat on the shelf for 4-6 months - no sales. Then the owner of the shop suggested that the raise the price ... to something like $750! The darn things sold out nearly immediately!! At $750, the people who bought them probably got what they paid for ... but the fools who ignored them at $150 just because they were too "cheap" really missed out! I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing out on a good value ... they sometimes do exist ... although probably not all that often at C.T.D. ;>)

Thanks,

I have at least 3 of the Harris Bipods in the 1la or what ever it was, 6-9 inch deal and I like them.

I would look strongly at the swivel model though.

Doc: Just curious ... do the 30 rounders clear the ground with the bipod in use, or is that why you still have a 10 rounder? Oh! That's what the ET is for!
