Which gun next?

I'm contemplating my next handgun purchase and don't know which to buy next. I'm torn between a Glock 19 and a Sig. 232. They are quite different guns. The thing is I WANT them both eventually, but I don't NEED either of them. Right now I have a Kimber Compact for most carry applications and for range fun, and a S & W Model 60 for warm weather and lighter carry. Also, a .22 S & W completes my hand gun inventory.

I put the G19 in the same category as the Kimber Compact and the 232 in the M60 category as far as being a small, light (relatively to the steel-framed Kimber) carry gun. Price is pretty near a wash. And so far, I don't have any fantastic plastic nor do I have any DA/SA like the 232. The G19 would be more fun at the range and the 232 would be another choice for warm weather, light clothing carry. I've shot neither. Ranges around here don't rent.

They'll likely both be in the safe someday. Which would you plunk your money down for first?

If I were you I'd go with the Glock 19. Despite my current love affair with SIGs, I think overall the G 19 is the better gun. I don't have a 19 anymore (can't remember why I traded it) but I was impressed with its ability to shoot like a bigger gun but conceal like a small one. My experience with the P 232 was rather ho-hum. The one I had was only capable of fair accuracy (YMMV), and other pistols (kahr) of equal or smaller size are chambered in more potent calibers.

The G19 is not much more difficult to conceal than a P230. I've owned both, and the G19 is by all standards a superior CCW gun: more durable, sweat-proof, less perceived recoil, higher capacity and (in my experience) better accuracy. It's also chambered for a more potent cartridge than .380ACP.

The SIG P230 is neat, and it has an advantage over the G19 in that it has a thinner slide, which makes it a very comfortable IWB pistol. It's also a very attractive pistol.

If you want a polymer and a DA/SA, why not a Walther P99? Ergonomics are great, they're fun to shoot, accurate, and good as a carry gun too. First time you hold one in your hands, you'll fall in love with it.

lendringser, you're exactly right about the thinness of the 232 slide. Although, it's not the most ideal caliber, it's one of the things that attracts me to the pistol. I'll bet it would be comfortable to carry and all but disappear in IWB.

Still, the Glock. How can I go wrong with that?

I like the idea of entering a Glock 27 into the equation. The Glock 27 is small but has a lot going for it. It is a great defensive pistol that shoots with full sized pistols. You can use a Glock 23 magazine and an A&G Adapter. You will swear you are shooting a Glock 23. Buy a Glock 26 barrel, a Model 19 15 round magazine, and A&G adapter. Again you will swear you are shooting a Glock 19. Buy a 357 Sig barrel and you can have even more fun. Regards, Richard
