Which Glock 9mm?

I am brand new to the list, and I am trying to decide on which Glock 9mm I should buy to have as my primary carry gun. What are your thoughts on the supremacy of either the 19 or the "baby" Glock? As a new guy, I'd appreciate some seasoned counsel.

It really depends on what feels best in your hand. For licensed carry the G26 is tough to beat, but I cannot get use to how it feels in my hands. Even with Pearce grips I've got to aim high to compensate for how poorly it points for me. Try one, it might be the cat's meow for you. The G19 on the other hand fits me very well. I also like the longer slide, it makes it point and balance better for me. With a quality holster such as an Alessi Talon the G19 conceals well even under a loose tshirt.

I don't buy prebans so capacity isn't an issue for me. If you intend to get prebans than the G19 15 rounds might be an issue compared to the G26's 10 rounds.

Seriously completely totally recommend the M17.

If you intend to carry a 9mm Glock, this one is at least proven very very reliable. Carries well. Also easiest to get hi-caps for.

If you plan on carrying this piece alot, without hesitation I say the G26. The 26 points more naturally for me because I'm used to the more traditional grip angles of 1911's, Sigs, etc. The backstrap snuggles up to the middle of your palm, making it point lower than the mid and full size Glocks.
It's no P7 in the tack driving department, but the 26 will surprise you. It shoots as softly and as accurately as the 19 or 17 in my experience. I have never had an abundance of kind words towards Glocks and their worshippers (it makes me puke when I hear some Glocktalkers refer to Gaston as "god"), but I find absolutely NO fault in the G26.

Hey there rdmccurley,

I started with a G-17, then got a G-26, then just wasn't satisfied - so I got the G-19...

They all are fine, but the G-19 fits me like a glove. The G-17 is just a smidgen too large, and I am not as accurate with the G-26 as I am with the G-19 or G-17, but it hides nicely! (grin)

I can guarantee you there will be a G-34 or G-35 in the near future...

So give it up, and start your collection anyway you would like... (LOL)

Seriously, rent, borrow or shoot each if you can. I have done a little work on the G-19 and it will occasionally double tap to the same hole... She's my *BABY* and I use her the most. So does my girlfriend... I would steer you to the G-19 as the most versitile of the 9mm Glocks - depending on your frame and holster style of course...

You decided if this will be a CCW for sure? What's your height and weight if you don't mind me asking... that will color the decision...

Happy shopping... (grin)

I have two 9mm Glocks and a .45 Glock and of all the 9mm's I prefer the G26. Recoil is minor on the G26 and it is reasonably accurate for a subcompact. OTOH, my Glock 17 is really a disapointment and I regret getting it. Since I got the super accurate.45 Glock 21 first, the G17 disapointed me (since accuracy on my G17 is average at best) considering is DOES have a long sight radius. All the 9mm Glocks are reliable, but in Kalifornia where you cannot get hi-caps anymore a large 10 round 9mm that has sub-par accuracy looses its appeal quickly.

I have four, the models 34, 17, 19, and 26.

The 26 is easiest to conceal, for me, tho' I have carried them all at one time or other.

I prefer a belt holster and highly recommend M/D Enterprises' BS-2 model. You cna see Mark's line at www.cutomholsters.com

Here's my advice:

For a duty gun, get the 17. Size really isn't an issue here. It carries the most and kicks the least.

For a gun to carry on your waist, get the 19. The butt won't poke out as much as in the 17, but it is much more comfortable and gives you more capacity than the 26. It can also double as a house and target gun.

If you're going to carry anywhere else, like ankle or fanny pack or pocket or thunderwear, etc., get the 26. That's when size is really at a premium. I personally think the grip is too short, and don't really care for the grip extensions (if you're gonna get a grip extension, why not get a 19?).

Which Glock do I carry? The 23!

So there you have it. Simple choice! I haven't decided yet so I own 2 G17s - 1 G19 (a second one is on the way) - and 1 G26. Still testing to see which I like best.

I have a Glock 19 which I carry in all but the hotttest months. I love it. Simple, utterly reliable, and damn near indestructible. With a supply of pre-ban mags, it's really hard to beat.

However, if I had it all to do over again, I might go with the Glock 26 - you can still use the pre-ban mags for the 19 in the 26 if you use A&G grip entenders, and you could use the regualar 10 round mags when size was a concealment concern.

I have a G19, and I bought a G26 a few months ago. The G19 is a GREAT all around gun, and the G26 is a GREAT carry gun.

As others have mentioned, the grip angle on the two is very different. The G19 has a large grip angle that I couldn't quite get used to. If you are used to guns that have a small grip angle like a 1911, you might not want this gun.

The G26 is the WORST feeling gun I've every held. It feels like a rock in my hand. However, it's small size, light weight, high capacity, indestructable finish, and utter reliability make it a GREAT carry gun. It has a much smaller grip angle, and that makes it easier to shoot for me. I also find it's reduced size makes it much easier to conceal. (I live in South Florida)

Definitely give both a test drive before you buy. Two VERY different guns...

My personal preference is for a grip that accommodates all of my fingers. I also find a super-short sight radius affects accuracy, though YMMV. If I were buying a Glock 9mm, it would be the G19. You may want to rent or borrow the different models and try them out.

In any case, you can conceal a fairly good size gun with the proper holster selection & clothing. I know people who conceal full size 5" 1911s, 4 inch .357 revolvers, and such.

I own both. Get the 19. With the 26, you'll probably put Pearce's finger extension on it anyway, making the grip almost the same length. Keep your sight radius as long as possible with the 19. Capacity doesn't hurt either. (Buy at least one high-cap mag).

G19 first, then the rest.[/quote]

I see so many posters like the Glock 19 the best (out of 9mm Glocks). I would like to know what makes this model so popular? Maybe I might get a G19 one day if y'all convince me of its merits.

(my personal favorite is the G21)

Quantum,
The G19 is really not perfect for any single purpose, rather it is the perfect compromise for a variety of purposes. It is small enough to conceal yet large enough to fit comfortably in most hands. It is 9mm which some say is too small, but 15+1 of 1350fps jhp is formidable in my opinion. It is too light to be a world class target shooter, but is light enough that I will never leave it at home because I don't feel like toting it around. Other than that, it has the same benefits of other Glocks: namely reliability and simplicity of operation. Hope this helps, Snakeshot.

I have a G19 that is a little too big for concealed carry.

I think that Glock has some newer models that are smaller.

The Kel-Tek P11 is just right.
