I had my best luck with the 1917 Enfields. I used to collect WWII military arms and have shot a lot of them.
The Mosins do not impress me at all. They are crudely made, ugly weapons that are, more often than not, totally trashed out by the use of corrosive ammo.
Only accurate firearms are interesting. If you just want something that goes bang on the cheap, look into muzzle-loaders. They are a lot of fun and though some of them are pricey to shoot, most of them are not.
The fellows here who have suggested a good quality used sporter in combination with loading your own shells have the best idea of all.
