folks,
Im looking at two colt detective specials (38)at different shops both are $295.00 one is and oldie, nickle, open ejector rod rounded with 1/2 cut front sight with orig. grips, ser. # was like 88xxx with a H stamped in the yoke frame. nice shape. 2nd is unfired perfect condition very nice deep blue finish with new stlye colt checkered grips, forget ser.# dec.spl is stamed on barrel so its not one of the newer ds mods.(not sure if those were even made with a blue finish.) which one should I pick up?? will be used for occasional carry and kept close by for home protection... Thanks.

Well, if I were buying it, I would get the blued model, as I really don't care for nickel, chrome, or stainless finishes on my guns. But that's just me.

Which one has the better trigger?

Which one has the grips that feel better?

Is the older nickled one rated for +P?

Which one do YOU like better?

Those are just a few of the questions that you should ask yourself.

Smith & Wesson is dead to me.

If you want a Smith & Wesson, buy USED!

I'm leaning towards the newer blue one, both triggers felt nice, I like the sights better on the older nickel one, and I think it is more valuble/fairly rare, don't like the grips, old banana stlye but they can be improved with a tlyler t-grip,blue one is nicer looking and better grips but the sights kinda suck...HMMM

I have one from the 70's. It's blued, diamond grips with Colt emblem and shrouded ejector rod. Mine was in good condition but with a little wear on the front of the barrel. Trigger both SA/DA is real smooth.
I paid $190. for that if that helps. I like it, it's a good little shooter

Hope this helps :)
