I agree, bench rest target gun should have a heavy profile barrel among other things, so neither of your current choices vary good for the task at hand.
If wanting a factory target rifle, the Savage gets my vote.
Ruger makes their target rifle with a heavy 28" barrel in 6.5 creedmore but good luck finding one unless you' re willing to pay retail ++. For that kind of money you're just about in reach of a Cooper.
Most guys at my range end up reballeling their Savage not too long after they buy them. PITA to clean. Bought my RugerVT online and only paid 750. I dont reload but if I did I'm sure it would do much better.
For your purpose, go custom, my friend. Custom. There are MANY good custom 'smiths who are trying to earn a living and will value your business and give you good value in return. Talk to a handful or two of them.
