I got the OK from the boss to get a CQB.Now I cant decide which one to get.The full size or the compact.I own a few full size 1911s but no compacts.I know it is more concealable but how about controlability?HELP!

I have a Kimber Compact (steel frame) as well as a Colt Officers model (in addition to full size 1911). I do not feel that controlability is a problem at all and the shorter slide surely does conceal easier and more comfortablly. Good luck-your milage may vary! Can you borrow or rent one to try?

To carry, no gun is too small; to fight with, no gun is too big. I want a Ber 21 that converts to a G3 when drawn.

IMHO, get the big one. Then buy 3 more.

Get the full sized model.

Commanders don't really offer much in terms of concealabilty, when you think about it.

I obtained a full size CQB 2 months ago, and a couple of weeks ago I was able to get a Compact CQB also. They are both great guns and I recommend getting both if you can. I got one in the black/green scheme and the other in black/grey. What surprised me was how easy it was to control the Compact version and how accurately it shoots. IMHO, it is the more concealable of the two, and if I could only have one, I guess it would have to be the compact version because of this. The compact version gives up one inch in barrel length and one round in the chamber, but it doesn't really give up anything in control and it is easier to conceal.

I own both a full size and compact Protector. Both are excellent guns, but if I could only own one it would be the full size. The full size is more fun to shoot and I am faster and more accurate with it compared to the compact. During the summer I carry the compact, whereas I carry the full size most of the remainder of the year. Although the difference in size is not great, I find the compact significantly easier to conceal. I train with the gun I carry, so in early fall I transition from compact to full size and at the end of spring change from full size to compact. It is much easier (from a skill level) for me to change to the full size than to change to the compact, which further supports my belief that it is easier (as least for me) to shoot the full size well.

Hey Alan,

I also have a Sig P229 in .40S&W which I really love shooting. The CQB Compact is about the same size frame as this gun though the CQB Compact is a little heavier. I plan to carry the CQB Compact in the colder weather times of the year when people are wearing heavier clothes and I will carry the P229 when it is warmer and the clothing worn is lighter and thinner.

I own both the full size and the compact. Either will serve you well.

The compact is a commander length slide on a officer's frame (ie the frame butt is shorter than a commander/fullsize). I have a number of guns in this configuration (eg a les baer stinger) and of them the CQB is easiest to shoot. This is because of the bull barrel. The thing is really accurate and is more concealable.

There are some guys that say it shoots like a fullsize. I wouldn't go that far, but will say that the recoil is no big deal compared to other small guns and, more importantly, the thing runs and shoots to point of aim. It is very accurate.

Just depends on your use for the gun. IMO you should spring the extra 50 bucks for tool steel parts whatever you buy.
