which choke best for slugs?

I do not want the expense of a rifled barrel
Well, then what is wrong with sticking to a smooth bore and using rifled slugs? You should be good out to 100yds, don't have to buy a new barrel and stay with the least expensive slugs. Not sure what part of the country you live in but try to recall the distance on any deer, you have seen, in your area. I live in the Midwest and for the most part, shoot this set-up and have taken quite a few deer. .... ;)

what is the expected shot distance? Under a hundred yards, just use "rifled" slugs for smoothbore thru any choke tube up to and including full... Find one that works well in combination with your gun and ammo.

Over a hundred yards, the $abot $lugs are the better choice. I have no experience with the higher dollar slugs and really question how much spin a rifled tube would impart... The slug is already up to speed without spin when it reaches a 2-3 inch rifled "barrel"...

Me? I am a cheap guy using cheap guns and ammo to get cheap meat in a convenient fur carrying case....

The rule of thumb I have always known is nothing tighter than a an IC (improved cylinder). I shoot slugs with my IC pretty much most of the time.:D
