Which choice for Home Defense ???

Basically at this moment, I have two choices for home defense.

#1: Winchester Defender 12Ga. never been shot.
#2: Remington Express, 12Ga. used but in very good shape.

Understand that one has to go and the other stays put. I am more familiar with the 870 but not familiar with either for home defense an accessaries available. I'm sure this question has been overworked and beg your indulgence. Any and all input would be appreciated.

Shoot 'em both. Get to know 'em and either will serve you well, once proven. Accessories are waaaay overrated.

Evening Pahoo. Both will do the job just fine but I`d probably agree with Kimmy and opt for the Rem. Thats just because the feature`s(loading, safety location, etc) on the Rem. is kinda second nature these days. Pick the one you can fully operate blindfolded.;)

ANY gun,new or used, should be proven to work reliably if it is going to be used for home defense.

I keep it simple with my shotgun as it doesn't have lights, lasers, rails, pistol grips, etc.

I don't need to be fumbling for some accessory in order to bring the gun in battery if some goblin comes calling.

My father in law has a defender and he seems happy wih it and a Express shotgun that works right is hard to beat.

If you are only using it for home defense, I would keep the 1300 Defender (assuming it is the one with the 7rd mag tube).

If it is a dual role gun, such as HD and Skeet the obvious choice is the 870.

Become one with the gun. If both are mechanically reliable, either model will do just fine. Software trumps hardware.

Gentlemen, I thank you for your input and great advice. I'm fairly sure that I will keep the 870 and as Y'all put it, work with it.
Looks like my next move will be to get an 18" or 20" barrel. Thanks again.

Thanks Shortwave and the way I've been shooting lately, this might make an improvement.

The whinchester defender is a good gun and all but the 870 is extrordinarily reliable and I'd recomend the 20" barrel instead of 18" barrel because it looks cooler :D and either way you will have the same preformence
