which blue pen for 442?

I wanted to buy one of those birchwood blue pens to touch up the front face of my 442 cylinder. brownells lists two types, one is gloss black for steel blue, the other is flat for anodized aluminum. My question is, will the anodized one work on the steel? My cylinder and barrel are very flat black, almost like the anodized frame. I assume the gloss is made for polished blue (like the old all steel smiths or colts which are higly polished).

Would recommend any.

For touch-up to hold, you must thoroughly clean and prep the surface. The pen just makes it seem too easy. I'd get a tube of Birchwood Casey paste, or some liquid 44/40 from Brownell's. Or, their own Oxhpho-Blue is also great.

Just what part of your cylinder needs attention? Did you wear away the blue with a steel cleaning toothbrush?

I'm not positive, but I highly suspect that the pen for use with Al will not work on steel. Different chemicals are required for anodizing Al and blueing steel.
