Which bits and where from in Santa Fe?

My dad is off to the States for a break and, as such, I am tempted to hit him with a nice shopping list.

Namely a range finder and possibly a pistol scope for range fun.

Now I don't know if he would even be allowed to bring the scope back: there are some wierd rules afoot in the States right now about what can leave the country and what can't.
Right now I am not even sure how to find out.

However, in the interim, I would like to ask a two-pronged question.

Firstly which affordably priced pistol scope (such as a Swift Premier 4x32) and which affordably priced 800-1000yd range finder would you recommend that would be readily available on the shelf of a Santa Fe sporting outlet?

Secondly, which sporting outlet would you recommend to find such items?

Uh, you do realize that there are more than one city in the US with the name Santa Fe, A state would help narrow it down some and help you get an answer to your question. And to answer your question, I doubt that there is a pistol scope to be found off the shelf in Santa Fe, Texas.:D

You're talking about export restrictions. Some of those are from the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security, the Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control, or the Secretary of State's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls - you can look up some information here.

If you're talking about Santa Fe, NM - the best place to go is the Outdoorsman of Santa Fe. If he's going through Albuquerque, the best place to go would be the Sportsman's Warehouse.

Can't imagine there would be any export problems. Just be sure not to pack them in the carry-on. Some TSA agent might recognize them as being fire-arms related and shut down the whole airport over it.
