Which AR-15 ?

What's wrong with Armalite?

My local dealer has a couple of those. I was very temped to get one, but it seems like no one recommend stuff from Armalite. Is there something I don't know?

i love my armalite m-15(T): 16" stainless bull barrel, match trigger, free floating handguard and green furniture.

i think armalite is a bit more expensive but i liked the customer service person on the phone, their record in competition and the fact that they sell accessories (mounts, scopes, etc...) for less than i can get them anywhere else. they also have an very nice handguard for their 16" rifles (same proportion as the rifle, longer than the carbine)

Depends on what you want to use it for. Bushmasters come with a chrome-lined barrel, and a chamber designed for 5.56x45mm.Armalite barrels are unlined and I believe they are chambered for .223, which uses a cartridge case of a slightly smaller diameter. You can shoot either cartridge in both rifles, but the Armalite will be slightly more acurate because an unlined barrel is usually more acurate, and the tighter chamber will cause less slop. The Bushmaster will be more reliable(less failures to feed/extract) and the barrel should last longer. I have a Bushmaster and it's great! Very acurate, very fun. I plink. If shrinking your hundred yard groups from 1.5 inches or less by 20% or 30% is a big deal to you, then get a target model.Bushmaster, Armalite, whatever. My dissipator was afordable and has been very reliable. Plus, I can afford to shoot it more by taking advantage of the good deals available on quality military surplus ammo!!Just my 2 cents.

I like the US GI stuff made by Colt or FN with a Bush or PWA lower.I wonder about that funny purple shade on the Bush at times though.:)

I just got the latest Armalite catalog and they show only chrome lined or stainless steel barrels, no bare barrels at all.

To answer the question:

Why not both?

I have BM lower that I plan to mate with an Armalite upper that's on order with Armalite right now. 16" carbine barrel, with the unique Armalite carbine mid-length handguards and NM sights (which I'll switch with my DCM-spec Colt rifle as soon as I get it, but I digress).

Both are good, Colt is not (I got mine several years ago, so I feel no problem giving that advice) and the rest don't have as good a reputation and service as BM and Armalite does.

For more info, review the different builders sites at the Ar15.com site when it, hopefully gets back up.

Regards,

Albin

Albin: I'd check with Armalite. I strongly suspect the barrel on their national match version is not chrome lined.

I have two Armalites (Eagle Arms Golden Eagle and AR10). I think they're great rifles. I don't have a Bushmaster for comparison, but I do have a post-ban Colt Match Target. The Armalites are better rifles than the Colt.

I have Armalite, Bushmaster and DPMS. I'm not certain why Armalite gets fewer nods than Bushy, but I'd suspect the price. Many more bushmasters floating around out there. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either one. Both are very well made. My DPMS is the tightest fitting upper/lower combo I have but they don't make or use chrome lined barrels. Take care.

No fair to troll a general question in the headline...

and then specify only bush or arma in the body of message!

COLT, of course, preebie preferred, the original and best!

Thank you for your interest!

Colt enjoys better name recognition than others but they use some pretty odd parts. For instance, larger than normal pivot pins for the hammer and trigger assembly. This precludes using most mfg's parts in their guns. Colt also has that horrible auto-sear block which requires the back of the bolt carrier to be milled flat. Quality control is excellant though and their 1-7" twist heavy barrel is the preferred barrel of long range .223 shooters.

Per John Feamster of Precision Shooting, Bushmaster ranks about #2 with the precision gun builders and is liked because of their quality control standards.

Gary, did I stutter when I said Preebie?

You never have to replace parts on a Colt AR15 anyway. All the manufacturers make replacement parts if you want them as there are probably 10 Colt AR15s out there for every other clone put together.
