I would like to put a can on a 9mm pistol. I would really like to get a threaded barrel for a Springfield XD9 4" Service model, but can't seem to find one. Anyone?
I know a Glock 17 should be an easy one.
I think the can will be a gemtech? Good choice? PICS? Any and all you can tell me would be helpful.
Ammo choice?

If you chose to suppress a Glock, you will need to buy a suppressor which has a recoil booster (Linear Inertial Decoupler, Nielsen Device etc...). This is not an obstacle by any means, but tilt-barrel Browning design actions need this feature on a suppressor to function properly.
FWIW, Gemtech is a good choice but keep in mind it is not the ONLY choice. I have suppressors from Gemtech, AAC and Tactical Innovations and I can't complain about any of them. Just for the fact that you will have a hard time finding a threaded barrel for the XD, I'd go for suppressing the Glock. Take a look at YHM's Cobra 9mm suppressor. It is a good price point and they have been getting good reviews. It has a recoil booster built in so it will cycle your Glock.

Do yourself a favor and checkout Jarvis-custom they are in the threaded barrel business and make several barrels for many different pistols.

Oh - like VUPD said, Gemtech, AAC are both great. My preference is AACs EVO-9 for a 9mm but YHMs are pretty neat as well and are definitely up and coming.

As far as suppressor choice, the Evo-9 is a great can. My next 9mm can will be an SWR Trident. I can mount it on my subgun (3-lug), handgun (inertial device), or a straight threaded barrel. Add to that the fact that you can get the can and two mounts for less than the price of the Evo - sounds good to me.

I may just try and use my XD45 Service model. I have heard the gemtech blackside is a good can. I would be getting the barrel from jarvis for my XD. Thoughts?

BAR-STO Springfield XD 9MM SS Threaded 1/2X28 w/ thread protector

Price: $325.00

:eek::eek::eek:

If you are looking for quiet, don't try and suppress the .45. As good as the Blackside is, .45's are still one of the loudest suppressed weapons.

+1 for Jarvis Custom. I got one for my Beretta 92FS. The price was considrably less than other's I queried, I recieved it promptly, and the workmanship is first-rate. He makes his Beretta barrels slightly oversized to eliminate any play between the barrel and slide so you get an accuracy bonus to boot.

So putting a can on a 9mm is a much quieter solution? How much is ammo? Best can for the 9mm XD9?

Yes it is. You'll be much happier, especially if this is your first suppressor. I'd recommend 147gr ammo, as most of it is subsonic already. As for the best can, well there are a lot to chose from. I'd look hard at the SWR Trident.
