I've been looking at S+W 625 revolvers.Any owners/opinions of the performance center 625 versus the JM 625.The JM is about $70 cheaper on the sight I was looking at.

I have a 625 JM, and I'd pay more for it than the PC. Im not crazy about the black finish, and the rail on the bottom is worthless to me, and is ugly as hell.

My bad, I was thinking of the 325 Thunder Ranch. That is the one that has a black finish and the rail. The 625 PC is a bid on the ugly side as well IMHO. I much prefer the look of the 625 JM.....

Mine before I swapped out the stocks to Ahrends:

Been wanting one myself for a while now... I don;t really like the looks of the JM, & had heard ( been a long time ago now ) that they had some issues when they 1st came out ( may have been fixed by now ??? ) been looking at the ( I think ) model of 1988...

generally I'd prefer an older S&W to the newer ones, but with the 625's, one needs to make sure they are not shot out... back when bowling pin shooting was the rage, the 625 was the gun to have, & there are alot of 625's that have had a LOT of rounds through them...

I thought I was going to get one at the last gun show ( a model 1988 ) in good condition, I talked to the owner ( on a table next to mine... he had one at home ) on the 1st day of the show, but the owner looked on the internet that night, & didn't think I'd be willing to pay for what they are selling for right now on line, so he didn't bring it the next day :(

I really like my 625JM, and it's more accurate than I will ever be. I had to change the grips though. Although I liked the looks of the JM grips they felt undersized in my hands as my hands are large. I ended up putting finger grooved Pachmayr grips on it which felt a lot better to me.

I sure enjoy shooting these two...

I guess I'm partial to the pre-lock S&Ws...

I also like shooting .45 Auto Rim....just easier.

OK, Bob started this!

The 625 to get is the 625-6 MG. That's the last Mountain Gun that was pre-lock, pre-MIM. And yet it was made right when they were making the modern improvements. The book will cross you up on this one. The 625-6 MG in .45 Colt was made in 1996. Hammer mounted firing pin, no MIM. But the regular 625 went to the -6 revision the next year and it went to the frame mounted firing pin and MIM parts. That's S&W.

Anyway, the S&W 625-6 MG in .45 Colt made in 1996 was my Grail gun for a long time. Buy it, then have it converted to use moon clips. Then you have a gun that can shoot normal .45 Colt singles just as before. It can also shoot .45 Colt with clips. But now it will also shoot .45 ACP with moon clips. Which is the way I shoot mine 95% of the time. The only real downside I've discovered is much different POI between a .45 ACP 230 FMJ load vs a .45 Colt 250 grain hard cast Keith bullet! So much so that I basically use the gun almost totally in .45 ACP. It's nice to know that I could switch it over to .45 Colt if I wanted to use it that way but it was the fun with moon clips that I really wanted. Great fun gun. It's one of the guns people always want to try at the range.
