Which .45?

I have my choices narrowed to either a Springfield Champion in stainless steel or a Kimber Pro Carry HD or possibly a STI Trojan or Ranger. I want a 4" barrel more than a 5". I welcome any input or other suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Back in '95 I had an all steel SA Champion that was a sweet little pistol. Never skipped a beat.
Most recently I had a SA "lightweight" Champion that was very nice also. Totally reliable through about 250 rounds then traded it for a utility trailer. :(
Can't advise on Kimbers but I've certainly had good luck with Springfield Armory pistols. Best, J. Parker

Do yourself a favor and get a Sig P220. I am not a .45 fan, but I've fired just about every popular .45 around, and there is no doubt in my mind that the Sig is the very best available.

Of course, that's true of .380, 9MM, .357 Sig and .40 cals. as well. Glock runs them an extreme;y close second though.

Kimber

I would go with a Kimber, because it is a great gun. I like it better than a Springfield. Don't know much about STI or Ranger.

If I was to compare the various manufacturers of 1911's that have been mentioned in this post like car manufacturers by price and quality of workmanship then I would rank them as follows.

STI = Mercedes Benz excellent quality but beyond the realm of most pocketbooks.

Kimber = Buick

Springfield Armory = Chrysler
