which .40?

i plan to get a .40 for my next pistol. i have three choices - sigpro 2340, steyr m40 and sw99. any comments about these three would be appreciated. thanks

I would say the Steyr, because I have one and love it, but that is assuming the Sig would be DAO just like the other two selections.

I hate guys who when asked to pick one of three, they give you info on guns you've never even thought about.... and to make it worse, you end up buying one of those.

That being said, if you're gonna look at a Sig, I prefer the 229 over the SigPro. I find the grip on the metal Sigs to have a much better feel. And while I don't have any experience with the Steyr, I'd recommend the Walther P99 over the SW99. I love my Walther (a 9mm), and have heard that everyone who has a SW99 wishes they got the Walther. You could also consider a Glock 23!

i have a walther p99 9mm. great pistol, no problems so far.

i also like the look and the feel of the 229, but for some reason i really like polymer framed pistols.

i've read a lot about the sigpro and the steyr(technical stuffs) but of course, first hand info from those who have tried/used/tested these pistols would be valuable....so keep it coming guys.

thanks

Get the Sig. When you start with one of the best pistols, you won't have much to complain about. Besides, I think that it may be easier for you to get a .357 Sig barrel for this and they you'll have two guns! (Although I prefer the P229 myself)

Willam V,

Feel free to ask me any questions about the Steyr. I have an M 40 and shoot it in a local IDPA club. I also reload for it. I have a classic Sig, but not a Sig Pro. I don't really like the Sig Pro in comparision as far as look and feel. The Sig Pro is also made very different from the classic Sigs, so I would expect a very different shooting experience.

All right, we need a Sig Pro shooter's opinion for William V.

There are some real nice 40's out there...

If I were in the market for a new 40...I would definitely have to check out the following guns...Sig 229...Glock 23..."Genuine" Walther P99...HK USP 40c...I have owned all of them except the Walther but I'm about to pick that up in 4 days...Any one of these guns are downright awesome...All of them are Accurate & Durable...I would get one that fits your hand the best cause most likely you'll end up shooting that one gun better...Dont even mess with S & Wussy's...I've heard way too many horror stories about them...Just my .02...Take care...

used to own a glock 26. very reliable and accurate. easy to operate and field strip. just didn't like the grip. i sold it and got a walther p99 9mm - very happy with that decision.

thanks for the input guys. still have a couple of weeks to decide before the gun show starts (here in the philippines). just to give you an idea of the prices here - sigpro 2340 price is around 35,000 pesos, that converts to US$673. (exchange rate is $1 = P52) RIPOFF!!!

I don't know a lot about all the guns you mentioned, but like some of the others I would also recommend you take a look at the Glock M23.
Just my $0.000000002

Walther!

Out of the three you mentioned, I would pick none. Whatever you do don't get the Smith. I have heard of some serious problems coming from I think Maryland State Police, or maybit was Massachusetts. Anyway, they have had lots of malfunctions, and failures to fire. I do have experience with the Walther P99, and it is absolutely fabulous. I would go with it first off.
If you are not willing to get a Walther, get a Sig. I personally recommend the P229, not a Sig pro. If you think this is too big, that is fine, but I would still get something similar like the p226. Just my little contribution.

William:

It appears that you would like some help in ranking your choices. I will be happy to try to be of assistance.

1. Glock 23

2. Glock 27

3. Sigs

4. Berettas

18. Steyr

129. Smith & Wesson

Stay safe,
Dawg23

I only have used the USP40.

No problems, shoots well to the limits of the sights.

Digests both all the factory loads I've tried (WW, Rem, Speer) and my SWC reloads.

I like the controls and the trigger is adequate for working gun. Heck, it does pretty well in one handed target work and combat matches.

Ok everyone FOCUS, we need FOCUS, these were the choices.

sigpro 2340

steyr m40

sw99

I know I love my classic Sigs, but William V was specific.
