Which .40 liberty defense round

Well, I finally did it and purchased a .40 Liberty (I refuse to use the S&W moniker). I am waiting my mandated California 10 days. I purchased a Ruger.

Two Questions:

1. Will the Ruger feed everything?

2. What bullet weight, manufacturer, etc. are deemed the "best" or at least "dang good" as a home defensive round? I am in a detatched house, so there are no neighbors "in the next room", so overpenetration is not an extreme issue.

Thanks.

Personally, I use the 165 gr. bullets. I usually go with Gold Dots, but I find that Remington's Golden Sabers are loaded a bit hotter, so that is what I use as a defensive round... A lot of people like the 135 gr. rounds, but I tried it out and the 165 gr. was more accurate in my gun... Try out a few different weights and brands to see what is most accurate for your gun and most importantly, what feeds flawlessly...

DITTO: GOLDEN SABERS 165 GRAIN ALL THE WAY

second choice: 135 grain Corbons

third choice: any one of several 155 grain loadings probably Federal

ProLoad 155gr. Gold Dots.

Splitting the difference between the 135 people and the 165 people.

ProLoad makes high quality ammo for a very fair price.

You wont know if your gun will feed any hollow point untill you try to shoot a bunch of it.

135 Grain COR BON or Triton... for .40 I like the higher velocity.
But thats just me - its an odd contradiction to my .45 thinking - which is in favor of the 230 grain loads.

My current choice: ProLoad 165gr. Gold Dot (subject to change without notice or reason ;))

I've also carried Speer's 155gr load with the Gold Dot; 135gr. CorBon +P and 180 gr. Winchester Black Talon. I'd like to try the Golden Saber sometime, but I'm very happy with the ProLoad. Nice and accurate, consistent from round to round, penetrates well, holds it's jacket and packs alot of energy for a .40.
