Funny you should ask..I've been saving for a Colt 1911, but saw a S&W model 64 snubbie for $425.00
From your list I would say the 642

I'd go with the 642 but you should try to handle all of them. You might find the LCR's bigger grips and lighter pull work well for you. As for the bodyguard, I have not had a chance to fire one yet but I have fondled one at the LGS. I didn't like the way it felt in my hand and the lasers activation made it practically useless. The 642 with a crimson trace is the way to go if you want a small revolver with a laser grip.

I just wrestled with this for the last few months and settled on the S&W 442. It just felt the best to me and seemed like it would be easy to carry.

I've narrowed down my choice between 642 and LCR down to the 642.

Reasons:

It all depends on what the purpose of the "tool" is. For me, I am looking for a small, lightweight .38 for concealed carry. The 642 has a narrower grip, and smaller trigger guard.

Price. I can get a brand new no lock 642 for $341. The lowest price on LCR I've seen is $379. If I wanted the boot grip that would be $30 dollars more.

The LCR does have the smoother trigger. However this gun is something I'm not going to shoot much. Take it to the range, make sure it goes bang, and 99% of the time it will be stowed away.

I tried the LCR and a couple S&W's that a friend has. I bought the LCR, for the swee-eet trigger. I carry it every day. I also bought the .357 magnum LCR. I can't carry it in a pocket as easily as the .38 LCR. Pants are a little too tight. I carry the .357 Mag, LCR in a Galco belt holster. I love both models of LCR.

Other...

Ruger SP101 in 357 Magnum and you have the option to feed it 38 Specials if you so desire...I do not see the advantage to a 38 Special ONLY revolver nor do I prefer plastic guns of any configuration.

I vote for the 442 or the 642. I have both and after fixing the stubby grip issue (I have big hands) they are outstanding pocket guns, shoot well and feel good in the hand. If you think about another S&W a 2 inch model 15 or model 10 are darn good choses also.

If I got the 442 I would want a laser. I can get a 442 for $371.00. Crimson Trace LG-105 is like $189.00 more. That total is $560.00

The S&W Bodyguard is $418.00

I just dont know if I can spend $140.00 more. If there is a huge advantage I would I guess.

Any thoughts?

Honestly you did not give enough information for us to really make an intelligent comment.

We do not know what you intend for this gun?

What options do you want/neet?

Carry Fixed sights
Night sights.

:D

I voted for the LCR 38. Then save up for an LCR 22 to go with it.

I have a 638, an LCR 357 and an LCR 22. I like them all. I also have a 2-1/2" 66 that is not bad either.

I have Lobo Pancakes for everyone for belt carry, plus a Nemisis and a JR Roo pocket holster. The Jr Roo is a new one I got from Tuff Products the makers of the Quick Strips. I like it better than the Nemisis, the Jr Roo stays open enough to reholster with it still in my jacket pocket.

The LCR 38 has a weight advantage over the LCR 357 for pocket carry. As I already had the 638, I went for a little more horse power and weight with the LCR 357. I like the LCR 357, and I really like the LCR 22 for an economical training and practice J Frame size handgun. Light to pack when running around, and you do not feel you need a real gun. Like checking our deer feeders and filling them yesterday, repaired a gate latch, and made a run to the store for a loaf of bread, and $33 worth of groceries not on my list. Normally I would have swapped to a bigger gun going to town, but I did not yesterday.

If I were to get a 442, I would get the 442 Pro factory cut for moon clips, without the lock. I could really get to liking one of them. I may need to look for a home for my 638, and replace it with one infact.

Smith & Wesson or Ruger, both great choices.

How did you fix the "stubby" grip problem. That's what my wife didn't like about the 442/642

All are good choices. Pick the only you like the best. Personally, I'm a S&W 637 fan and find the fears of a hammer spur over rated.

Thanks for all the reply.

I am leaning towards the S&W Bodyguard .38SP

I think the price is my major influence. I can get one for $418.00 + tax.

I want one with a laser.
