Why?
The 101 will take the recoil from magnum loads nicely. I have a .357 and a .38spl. version of the 101 and they are heavy, accurate and reliable. You might consider a spring change or dry firing the thing about 1000 times to smooth out the trigger.
I just picked up a ruger100 with a 3" barrel for the nice price of $300 OTD and I am really impressed with, haven't got to shoot it much, but Christmas break is coming and I will have some free time.

Check out the S&W 640 Centennial. All stainless steel, 2.125 inch barrel, no hammer and .357 mag.
