What have you found to be the best brass for accuracy, Winchester, RP, Lake City (what year?), Federal? There's a lot of once-fired Federal .308 up for auction. What should I pay if I bought it? Please name your price with your preference, I really haven't any idea on value. Thank you. dood

Haven't used anything but Fed Gold Medal for my VS. For American production cases, their fairly consistant. Neck thicknesses are within acceptable ranges, and I've never needed to turn them.

I've heared Lapua cases are good as well. A little more expensive, though.

If the FGM's are new, I think the going rate is $25-30/ 100.

Have used Federal, R-P, W-W, and Frontier (hornady). Overall, the Remington seems to be the most consistant of the ones I have tried, although I have heard nothing but good from people using Fed gold medal match.

I concur on Lapua - Best buy for brass, and it lasts pretty well when neck sized. Sure, it costs a little, but you won't be discarding any cases...

It weighs consistently, and you're probably not even gonna need to turn the necks.

Midway may have it. Hoehn Sales, one of the advertisers on Benchrest.com will likely have some in stock. Tell him Bogie sent you...

Midway at www.midwayusa.com has it for about $33 per 100. It's great brass. I actually just ordered anothe 100 today. I picked up some of the Lapua bullets too. A little pricey but we'll see how they work.

BTW, Midays' got a sale on Grade 1 .308 Win once-fired brass $30.99/1000 (yes, three zeros). Good through 8/20, IIRC.

Thought it was R-P (for some dumb reason or 'nuther) - turns out to be ~85% LC XX years, 'Bout 25 or so R-P, handful of WW & couple FC & a few other mixed Nato.

Seems to be neck-sized (bullets won't seat by hand), but when running a few through a FL sizer, it took some doing - they'll get the treatment. Besides, then I'll know they're the same.

De-primed & the Mil cases appear to have had the primer pockets swagged out - zip for problems priming a randon couple dozen.

A good, brief once-over & only pitched two.

Karsten,

Midway's got that "small order" thing $40 min (IIRC) - just ordered some (fairly priced) .223 bullets to boot. Was lazy, saw "a deal" & gave 'em a call. Think I dropped ~60 all told w/the 300 Sierra MatchKing 52s

Beats me.

This brass does seem tough going through the sizing die - but, not overly so ...

Could be one of those live 'n learn things.

I like Lapua. Very consistant in weight. Very little culling if any. Very strong. Also for some reason the Lapua in .308 is one of the cheapest calibers Lapua offers. My Lapua .223 brass costs considerably more than the .308 brass. Go figure.....ol blue

I noticed that too Ol Blue. It's kind of strange. I'm glad it's that way though because the .308 is what I buy. :D

I just wished they offered it in .300WM.

That's a good price on Winchester also. A friend told me that Winchester is only second to Lapua for brass and is the best American made brass. I guess Federal has been slipping. Who knows though. I like Lapua because it lasts if you only neck size.
