Which .22??

Looking for a good replacement for my Remington 597. The Ruger 10/22 is probably what I'll go with. Here's my dillema. A stock 10/22 is around $369.00Cdn, a stainless heavy barrel with a laminate stock is around $589.00 Cdn. Now if I go with the less expensive gun I know I'll probably want to upgrade the trigger group, $299.00 Cdn, and heavy barrel $250-350Cdn, and a new stock $150-350. So what do you all think, a heavy barrel from the factory and add a aftermarket trigger group or buy the cheaper version and build up from there?

Do you like the barrel?

That's the issue. The only point in getting a target model (10/22T in blue, K10/22T in stainless) is if you like the stock and barrel.

The barrel is a pretty darn good hammer-forged barrel. I like it and I own a 10/22T. I bought a complete trigger group from Volquartsen to put in, and I have bedded the action and a little bit of the barrel into the stock myself with marine-tex.

and look at the "Quarter" pictures in the TFL album to see my best group at 100 yards with this set up and a Simmons 3X9X40 scope.

The 10/22T is no slouch, but it still needs some TLC before it will shoot its best.

Regards.

369$CDN for a bone-stock 10/22?

Price seems steep to me. Russell's in Calgary has the plain vanilla model (10/22 RB) for 269.99$

Since you would want to upgrade, there's no sense in getting the fancy walnut stock, IMVHO.

Shop around, you can find it for even less if you check out the classified ads.

Your right about the $369 being too steep, afterall the "3" is right next to the "2". Typo I guess. Mind you I stopped into the local gun shop and their best price on a used 10/22 was $399.00. Ouch!:barf:
