Which .22?

I have a ruger single-six in .22/.22mag that I enjoy shooting, but not cleaning :) ... I'm thinking of seeing if I can trade it across for either a Ruger (P4, P512, or KP512 ... all .22/45 models) or a Browning (Buckmark Standard or Standard Micro). Once upon a time, I had a Ruger Mark II so I'm familiar with that line ... has anyone shot both the 22/45 and the Buckmarks? Any suggestions. I just got a HK-USP40C for Christmas, so "Just buy both and keep the single-six!" is NOT an option :) I'd really like some feedback on the accuracy of the 4" versions ... I've been really impressed with the compact USP and am therefore considering the 4" variants of these .22's as well.
Thanks,
Bill
ps ... I use it primarily for cheap practice at the range, but I'd consider taking it backpacking.

A .22 pistol doesn't need a long barrel for accuracy. I have a 22/45 with a 4" barrel that will put a full magazine into the 10 ring of a B2 target at 50 feet.

The Ruger and the Browning are both good choices.

With the 22/45 you get:
- cheaper magazines ($14 versus $24)
- many more aftermarket accessories
- lower price
- better reliability (usually)

With the Buckmark you get:
- a better trigger pull
- better sights
- more of a "real gun" feel
- the ability to replace the grip panels

I think you'll be pleased with either one.

Matt,
Is your reference to better sights on the Buckmark due to your Ruger not having adjustable sights? I'm going shopping tomorrow and I'm afraid that I might not be able to find a copy of each locally to actually hold before purchasing. :( Thanks for your input ...

Ditto on the Ruger 22/45..I have one with 4" barrel and adjustable sights...a real tack driver..all for under $200...
Never Shot a buckmark so I can't comment on that..although they are cool looking...But so is a Beretta model 89 gold cup....for $700...

Greetings Matt; I own the KMK-512 which is
the stainless 51/2" bull barrel model. It
is also a tack driver; as it has adjustable
sight's. Price was $289.88 + 8% sales tax.

Bill,

No, I mean that Ruger's adjustable sights (as on my 22/45 and on a Mk II that I used to own) aren't as good as Browning's adjustable sights. If you could see them side by side, I think you'd agree.

The Ruger adjustable sight doesn't have a big, flat rear blade, nor does it have a smooth, firm "click" when adjusted. It also requires a tiny flat-bladed screwdriver for windage adjustments. So, IMHO, while it's not a bad sight,it's not in the same league as something like a Bomar or the sights on the old S&W M41s.

Both are really great guns. If it's price you are concerned with, I would probably go with the RUGER! A friend of mine has a Buckmark, he loves it. Another has a Ruger, he loves it. I like the Smith and Wesson 22A Sport. All three are american made, easy to find parts and magazines for,and accurate!!
Buy the one YOU like better,
This is a win, win, win situation!! ( one of few! )
