What 165 grain .40 ammo are you guys having good luck with? I hear that the 165 is supposed to be the best, but the 180gr shoots the most accurately and has less recoil! Of course I've only tried a couple of brands. Thanks!

As far as ballistics go, what I saw with the FBI tests showed the winchester to have excellent expansion and penitration through all and bare mediums. The FBI did however choose Remington Golden Sabre for their .45's. As far as accuracy the ProLoad in 165 has been great out of Glocks that I have shot and the Speer Gold Dot bullet isnt bad either.

I'd recommend the 165 Golden Saber if it functions reliably in your gun. They are the best design I've seen across all calibers.

Search the archives here. There's a ton of info and arguments regarding the Gold Dot vs. Golden Sabre thing. I think Speer may have discontinued the 165gr Gold Dot, but there is a 155 from them (I may be wrong about the 165 thing). You can get a great 165gr Gold Dot round from ProLoad (@1100fps, it's what I'm carrying now).

Then there's always the Winchester 180gr Ranger Talon (if you can get it). If you want to carry something fast and light, there's CorBon's 135gr monsters @ 1200fps+.

Lots of folks like the 165gr Golden Sabres as well. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Just practice like crazy and run a couple hundred rounds of whatever you end up with through your pistol to check the functioning and point of impact.

Good luck on your search!

Our department is currently carrying the Winchester 165 gr. Ranger SXT. It has had a good record in the shootings we have had since we adopted the round.
