Where to sell Vietnam Chicom Pistol?

Have registered Chicom pistol (govt't approved removal from Vietnam) in mint condition with leather holster and magazine. Live in New York State; concerned about restrictions and value of the piece. Any advice very welcome.

I would recommend posting the pictures and other information in the "Curios & Relics" subforum.

I'm not an expert on Vietnam bringbacks, but from what I've gathered at stores that specialize in collectible firearms, it can be a mixed bag.
  • A lot of what the NVA and VC used was fairly ordinary mass-produced Chinese stuff that's not particularly uncommon. This is bad.
  • OTOH there are some rare gems because the Vietnamese not only had arms left by the French, they would generally take whatever the Chinese gave them, which sometimes included leftovers from previous wars. This is good.
  • Bringbacks don't have import marks and modifications (e.g. Tokarev add-on safeties) like guns imported to the USA for commercial sale. This is good.
  • A lot of these guns are in truly awful condition. Consider that it wasn't uncommon for NVA troops and VC supplies to travel for 2-3 months through the bush before even reaching the theater of operations... and the original carrier may have been blown up by an American artillery shell. This is bad.
IOW some of it is valuable. The rest? Most sells for more than equivalent run-of-the-mill commercial milsurp imports, but often not by very much.

One of the online gun auction sites would bring the best price. Much higher than the PM offers you're probably already getting :)

Vietnam pistols

I remember that if a prisoner was captured with an East German Makarov, he was a high ranking person.

New York, as you know, has some very rigid gun laws and is plain brutal about enforcing them. Best check the laws before selling a handgun out of state or other than to/through a licensed dealer. You want to make sure the registration to you is cancelled, otherwise you could be in trouble if some future owner misuses the gun.
