where to purchase a .308?

I think the thing to do is to do some research and determine which rifle you want. Finding, or ordering, a particular rifle is relatively easy. Find, or ordering, some non specific/generic type of rifle is an exercise with no goal.

My personnel opinion here..Don't go anywhere else but with a Savage rifle. Out of the box and fine tuned loads you can't beat a Savage.Savage off the shelf rifle win more Comp every year than any other rifle out there. My choice would be a Model 12 308 FVSS.

FV-12

I have had a 22-250 FV-12 for years, incredible weapon right out of the box. The only thing extra I have done to it, was add a trigger shoe. Been thinking very seriously about a 308 model for christmas. New ones have the better trigger than the older ones but, I do like the older one. Never shot a remington SPS but, have heard they are very nice weapons. Find a gun store that has one of each, set them side by side & see which one ya like the best.:D

+1 for the Savage .308s. They are accurate shooters out of the box and if you get the accu-trigger you will not be sorry.

I bought a 10 FP Law Enforcement Model with the heavy barrel last July and it shot so well out of the box using the Federal Premium Gold 168 grain Sierra Match King bullet ammo that my buddy bought one just like it. The newer models come in the 10 FCP-K which comes with the even more accurate accu-stock and has a compensator. While the rifle doesn't really need it, it does reduce the barrel rise so you can get back on target quicker. I shot one of the new ones and was skeptical but was pleasently surprised.

We have be hand loading for our two matching 10 FPs and they shoot their favorite hand loads under 0.55 inches at 100 yards with 150 and 168 ammos and just around 0.6 with 175 grain bullets.

I have shot it at 200 yards with 175 and 168 grain bullets and it maintains its accuracy at 200.

I have shot more than 665 measured groups with mine and it is a joy to shoot. It has a great accu-trigger set at 2 lbs and very comfortable butt pad. I can shoot it all day and not have any discomfort.

I also have a Remington 700 in .22-250 that shoots as accurately now that I replaced the factory stock with a Bell and Carlson Medalist and the factory trigger with a Timney. I love that rifle too, but always recognize that it cost an additional $400 to make it as accurate as my factory Savage.
