Where to go for scope rework??

Tried out new rifle for first time today! Turns out that eye relief in brand new Tasco top-of the-line scope is NOT adequate!! I understand that there are places where something can be done about this. Even if it means a cutback in max power, so be it! The first shot bent my eyeglass frames& lightly cut my brow and I flinched badly thereafter! Please, please, please, somebody help me! ( it has an e.r.of about 3 1/4" now )
thanx in advance, crankshaft

Although I'm not a big fan of Tasco scopes I wonder if it was actualy the scopes fault for this incident. What caliber were you shooting and let me guess, you were shooting off the bench? I got a little pop from my mountain rifle in 30.06 a while back and it wears two different Leupolds in QR rings. They will do that if you don't snug them up to your shoulder, especialy when the butt stock is resting on a sand bag. What type of rifle was it? Ya know if you're a big fella a recoil pad may place your cheek, and eye a little farther from the scope and also keep the stock from slipping on your shoulder. As I said up front that Tasco isn't my first choice. I own more than a dozen leupolds and have about that many deer rifles. But the other day I shot my old Savage 99 in .308 for the first time in several years. It has worn a Tasco 2.5 for close to twenty years. It shot so well and carrys so nice that it will se some use this next month. Even with that familiar cheek slap that the 99 is famous for. beertrucker-x

Rifle involved was a Maadi-Griffin type 50BMG. it wasw definitly the scope which did it as the recoil with this is virtually straight back to the shoulder, and muzzle rise is almost nonexistent, despite the caliber. It not only bent the frame cross-piece, but several times it spread apart the spring nosepieces! Still looking for help with a scope-shop address, but thanx for the input and interest, Beertrucker

Juan,

50BMG????? Why in the world are you putting a 100.00 Tasco scope on a 3000.00 rifle? Leupold and I think Nikon, and maybe some others have a 3 1/2" eye relief. I'm not sure 10 inches is enough for that sucker. I think I'd get a shotgun or pistol scope and mount the sucker halfway down the barrel. Then it would be a 50 caliber "scout rifle". :D

Actually, a $450 scope on a $1900 rifle, and because money began to run short, of course. Some of us still work for hourly wages, yet manage to DREAM!!!

Juan:

I've seen ads in The Rifle or Handloader magazines for an outfit in Ohio that claims scope repair/overhaul expertese. If I can find their addrress, I will either post it or email it to you. Keep and eye out. I have had had zero experience with this outfit.

You might try asking Tasco themselves. They may have an idea.

Most scope companies make LER scopes. I don't think that the scope's the problem. Try adjusting the nut behind the trigger.
