Where to Get Cheap Gun Cabinets

Hey All,

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to get gun cabinets on the cheap side. I was also wondering if anyone knows where to find hidden gun cabinets. I found one but it's around $700-800, it's disguised as a curio but the back unlocks into a hidden gun cabinet

Any ideas on where to get something similar for a lower price? I'd prefer a hidden gun cabinet for several reasons.
1. So if someone does break in it's not incredibly obvious where my guns are. 2. So I can keep them in an accesible location but also protect them from my kids.
3. because my lease says i'm not allowed to have "dangerous objects" in my apartment, even though I'm of the opinion that they're not dangerous until I decide to make them dangerous, kind of in the same way the pencil on my table isn't dangerous until I decide it's a good weapon to impale someone with. But the point is, the maintenance guys check the AC filters and smoke detectors every so often and I have to scramble to hide them.

As a side note, today we got our first notice that they are coming in tomorrow to check out the filters and detectors, luckily under my couch is all empty space (thank you Ikea) so I have them strapped into the bottom side of the couch.


So back to my point, Any suggestions on where to get hidden gun cabinets?
 
I don't have a gun safe and I know I need one. It's just so hard to actually spend the money... when I think about spending money for a safe I think "But I could also take that money and put it toward that Mossberg I like, or get better sights for that... or have pistol-x refinished with NP3..."

I end up never actually going out and purchasing the safe
 
If you are asking about cabinets and not safes, I can recommend the Stack-on cabinet (http://www.stack-on.com/categories/security-cabinets-gun-cabinets/products/68) and its smaller companion ammo cabinet. These bolt together and and can be put in a closet for concealment if necessary. Mine are in my reloading room, bolted to the wall and concrete floor, but I have no illusions of security with them (my locksmith picked the lock in 30 seconds after I lost my keys). They are designed to keep children and the mentally challenged from gaining easy access, not someone with a cutting torch and a big truck. Good product, overall.
 
I was looking around and saw a shadow box shelf and the front slides over to reveal a hidden back spot to hide guns in. it costs a pretty penny though so I decided to build my own, got all my parts together just gotta cut the wood and assemble it. I'll update with a pic if it looks any good when I'm done.
 
Why do you not think a safe would be just as good. I know a guy that bough a Stackon SS-22-MG gun safe, and doesn't even keep guns in it. Who's to say what's in your safe, and they can't legally compell/coerce you to open it for them, either. You should also look into the specific laws of your state regarding renting an apartment. Here in Texas, they can't prohibit you from having a firearm in your home (including an apartment) - or your car - because such a rule would infringe on your constitutional right to keep and bear.

I say buy a safe.
 
I take it that you are not skilled at all in the woodworking area? Maybe if you are or know someone who is you could find a cheap or free cabinet on Craigslist and turn it into one.
My Dad has been a carpenter for 30+ years and has taught me a little so thats the first place my mind goes. Plus, if you mess up on your first one you wouldn't be out much $$ and you could get another and try again.

I think that is a cool cabinet I have never seen or heard of anything like that. I will have to show my Dad, he would probably really like it and make something like it.
 
Depending on what you carry (size) they have hidden shelves that they sell on ebay. I picked one up a few months ago (like $60) and it goes on the wall. Pretty handy
 
i'm not SKILLED at woodworking, I can pull it off but it's definitely "at'll do" woodworking lol. I actually found one on craigslist, a home made one, and I'm gonna modify it a bit.

It has thin plexiglass on it right now which i'm going to be replacing with 1/2" lexan also gonna paint it to look a bit nicer, maybe just stain and some gloss though....

as far as that shelf i linked too, I tore apart some pallets at work and started making it, so far its crooked and not a masterpiece by any means, but it has a homemade country kinda look to it which i like. I just have to finish cutting my pieces and i wanna stain it. right now its cedar so very bright I'll take pictures when I'm done.


and i've seen a couple neat little hide-away shelves, i have to consider though whether or not its somethign my toddler can easily get to. I saw a mantle clock that would be perfect but too easy for the munchkin to get at.
 
Nicest cabinet I've seen was a pair of antique wardrobes, nice walnut, with custom walnut rifle racks added inside. Must have had about 75 guns in each of them, lots of room. This was in a house with alarms, community gate, and a secure room for the wardrobes.
