Where to buy used scopes?

Hi! I'm quite new to this forum, so please bare with me if this post is in the wrong forum!

Also, my native language is Norwegian, so my english is far from flawless.

First, let me say that this is a nice forum you've got! I read a lot and learn a lot here. We have one similar forum in Norway, but of corse, not nearly as many writers, and not nearly the same amount of knowledge gathered in one place...

Now for the question in topic:
I live and hunt in Norway. Here, one of the main benefits of forums like these, is the opportunity to aqquire quality second hand gear from forum members or through tips about interesting ads. It's allso common to shop through ebay, since prices tend to be a bit lower in the States than in Norway.

Even so, I have not been able to find a lot of used optics. There are some at ebay, but not nearly as many as I would expect, given the vast number of shooters and hunters in America! It's actually as easy to find what I'm looking for in the leading Norwegian "ebay-clone" as it is in ebay. Sure, if you're looking for new stuff, ebay is king, but when it comes to used optics there really isn't that much to find. And very often the prices seem to be...not that much lower than the price of new stuff. This doesn't ad up, given that Norway has a population of about 5 million people, of which 500 000 is registered hunters, whereas America has what...300 million(?) and how many hunters..? There should be enormous amonts of used gear going around, but I can't seem to find it!

I assume that buying used optics are as common with you as it is with us, since quality optics are expensive...

But where do you buy your used scopes??

First, let me say that I love when foreigners post on forums and apologize for their English when it is often better than most native speakers/writers. Second, what are you looking for? Most Americans buy and sell guns often but retain optics to transfer to new or other guns. Optics are out there but you have to dig. Try some guns specific auction sites rather than general ones. Good luck.

Ebay is a good place to start. Although some seller are reluctant to ship overseas. I just purchased a Weaver 10X in Excellent shape for $75 US. I dont know what that translates too where you are. I just got my NEW TO Me Mauser 22-250 Custom today and mounted the Weaver,They look good together.

Continue searching the classifieds here and at other shooting forums.
Look for scopes with lifetime warranties that transfer with the scope (Burris)

Another vote for ebay. I've bought half dozen or so Leupolds at substantial savings in US dollars, and not dissappointed

Thanks for your answers, and thanks a lot for complementing on my english writing. Comprehension could still be better though, 'cause I don't have a clue what you're refering to as "classifieds". What do you mean?

By the way, i'm looking for a scope to fit on my "old-school long range rig", a Tikka m65 super sporter with a new 61cm Shilen barrel, chambered in the good old 6.5x55:) Vortex, nightforce, Ior... That's the price segment I'm currently comfortable with...

Seems like Ebay also has a global site which might yield results closer to home.
global.ebay.com. At the top you select your country and the listings come up in the appropriate language.

WHAT SEEMS to be the problem(so you say) with your English??? I have detected NO PROBLEM we understand you perfectly DONT CHANGE NUFFIN, LOL

Huh? What's a nuffin and why would I change it?

Just kidding:) Thanks.

Gun broker seems to be a good alternative to ebay. As for problems with ebay sellers not wanting to ship overseas, it can usually be sorted out by shipping via a shipping firm situated in the states, or by simply sending the seller a message in beforehand.

I'll post whenever I buy something!

Later!
