Where To Buy Extended Tube For Moss. 500 nt.

William you will have to buy a 590 magazine tube and barrel. The 500's mag tube has a nut built into the front of it and the barrel has a screw on it to connect the barrel and receiver together. If you replace the 500's mag tube with a 590 the barrel retaining screw will be in the wrong position. Then you will have to buy a barrel for a 590.
If you really want to do that Brownells sells Mossberg parts.

Don't know about nowadays but you used to be able to buy 500 extended tubes direct from Mossberg. I picked one up several years ago that way.

Unless things have changed dramatically, an unaltered Mosberg 500 cannot take an extended mag tube, for reasons previously pointed out. It is impossible. The end of the tube is sealed, and drilled and tapped for the barrel nut. No way to put a tube on. fal308, how did your tube attach? And are you sure the gun was a 500?

You can (could) buy 8 round tubes from Mossberg. Also, several years ago I adapted a 5500 tube extension on to a 500.

fal308,

Would the 8 round tube install directly on the gun? Mossberg made the 500 in an 8 shot version, but this would require swapping out the original tube for the 8 shot, and buying a new barrel, as the barrel atachment point is in a different spot.

Are you saying that you were able to buy an extended tube that you were able to attach to an original 5 shot model 500 with no other modifications? I don't see how it is possible.

Its not, I just got an e-mail from Mossberg and no model of the 500 has had screw on extension tubes. The have the screw in lug that prevents it from happening. As we all know it is a sealed system and the support is soldered onto the underside of the barrel. For about $120.00 I got my 24" extended to hold 8 in the pipe. This is not a do it yourself operation unless you can blue or parkerize and are VERY good at de-soldering and resoldering!
