Where to buy 7.5mm?

Where can you buy 7.5mm French ammunition? Just 'cause I saw a MAS 49/56 rifle on sale, and it looks pretty nice, good price, comes with a lot of accessories. Not saying I'll buy it, but I'd like to know that if I did, I could actually feed it.

All I have seen is French, and very corrosive. I got some at a gun show, but I have seen it advertised. Note that if the ad does not say specifically "non-corrosive", the ammo is probably corrosive and will require cleaning the gun very well after each use.

I sold my MAS because the 7.5 was so expensive and hard to find, the last batch I bought was $9.50 for 15 rounds. You might as well shoot a .308 for that much. It was a neat rifle , just expensive to feed. Good luck , Mike...

You can buy modern reloadable Portiguies(sp?) ammo, or if you reload then you can neck 6.5x55 brass up and use .308 bullets.

nah

I don't think I'd put the money down. The only reason it caught my eye (SOG ad in the Shotgun News) was because it came with loads of accessories, and four mags. I love it when a rifle comes as a "kit" with accessories. Now if I could find one of the .308 ones I've heard about, I'd probably jump on that.

Check into the .308 models first. When they first started rechambering them they were having a lot of troubles with them jamming. This was about 1 1/2 years ago so they might have got it figured out , but then they might not have. Good luck , Mike...

I just bought a bunch of non-corrosive, reloadable 7.5x54 Portuguese ammo from him last week, for my girlfriend's MAS 36. Good stuff, but loaded a bit light, groups shot quite low. I understand this is normal for the Portuguese ammo, and I just bought it for the reloadable brass, anyway.

There were indeed problems with some of the rechambered MAS 36, and MAS 49/56 rifles, they (Century Arms International) supposedly had cut too deep a feed ramp relief in the new .308 Winchester chambers, causing the guns to disintegrate upon firing. Not good.

Somebody out there is making a AR-10 type receiver, .308 barrel, and furniture adapter for the MAS 49/56, looks odd, but takes some of the quirky French looks out of it...
