I was browsing older threads and saw one where Illinois is trying to pas a ban that would require you to turn in or destroy your semi-auto assault weapon and .50 rifles! Is that even legal? Where are the NRAs lawers and lobbyists that my dues pay for? More to the point what happened to the rights that my forefathers died for and that every year about this time I pay for? Ill is just accros the river form me and I do not want this crazy liberal bull in my state!

As far as I know Charlton Heston is not dead so why are they trying to get our guns?

You are the NRA!

The NRA has been sending regular updates to all of it's members via email, etc...about many proposed state laws. Illinois in particular has a huge amount both pro and anti this year. They have affiliated state organizations that try to mobilize on the state level, but usually they spend the most money on national politics. I think that sometimes the anti's propose legislation that they know doesn't have a good chance of passing just to test the waters or to bring themselves some publicity. Whenever they do it on the national level, it seems to cause the NRA to have to spend more of it's war chest dollars as if it's designed that way, to extract more money from the pro gunners. So don't dispair, just do what you can to contact your politicians when needed and let them know how you feel. Sometimes you can even do it online. Remember, you are the NRA! (And there are elected NRA representatives from each state that you can contact too!)

CraZkid, you can't be that naive. Can Il. pass bad gun laws? Sure, and it is legal if done properly.

What do your NRA dues pay for? Well, you get about 20 mailings a year asking for more money. In the process you get a lot of address return labels, keychain fobs, maybe a silver bullet, and/or a video. Personally, I don't see how the NRA is losing money on my membership because of all the mailings and freebies.

No, Charlton Heston isn't dead, but he does have Alzheimers. Whether he is alive or dead will not determine whether or not gun grabbers will make a play. Keep in mind that he may be the president for the time being, but even before his diminished mental capacity, he didn't do a whole lot of legal work. He wasn't made president because of his great business skills and long history of running a large national corporation, but because he was a famous actor who strong pro-gun opinions.

But what that ban is proposing is seizure of private property without compensation. With out a grandfater clause (where you keep your gun) or significant compensation (minimum of "blue book" if not more), taking the gun would be stealing from private citizens. If a ban like this were to be passed I am sure that the drug-dealers of Chicago would be pushing and shoving to be the first to turn in their weapons! Like all gun laws they mearly violate the rights of good citizens and criminals break them, becase breaking laws is what criminals do.

Here is a thought, if the hippys want to legalize marijuana to create fewer criminals; re-legalize full-auto weapons, give them to law-abiding citizens along with a criminal hunting permit and create fewer criminals.
