I'm all out of .22 and 12 gauge. I'm looking to stock up on a few cases. Where are the cheapest places online? Does anyone here have a sweet spot? :D

Cheapest I can find is 6$ / box for run of the mill 12 ga. target loads and 16~17$ for a 500rd brick of .22

Thanks!
:)

Unless you buy in bulk, the shipping negates anything you most likely will find locally at wally world or similar, and by buying in bulk I mean a case of .22, not a brick, and at least 10 flats of shotshells, not a promo four pack.

My local shotgun club(the trap/skeet type) will order in anything his target wholesaler sells and since they deliver on their truck, there is no shipping/hazmat/insurance costs

I don't know about shotguns, but bulk .22 LR bricks are generally priced in the $16 - 18 range. Thats the best you're going to get for that.

Yep Walmart. $22 or so per 100 12GA and $18 or so for a brick of .22 (sometimes less if they have Federal 550s).

Got irritated with Wal-Mart's hit and miss availability on Federal packs so I ordered off of Cabela's for the first time a couple of weeks back. Spent $90 on 2100 rounds of Federals that came in a nice metal ammo can. When I bought it Cabela's had a free shipping offer on orders over $50. Otherwise I think they would have hit me for another $12.

Was it a great price? Meh. $22ish a box is what I'd pay at Wal-Mart for the Federals with the new price increase (tax included), but those are the 550 boxes instead of the 525. On the other hand, I have been looking for a couple of metal ammo cans and the ones in surplus shops are pretty grungy looking (and running about $15 a pop) - the one they sent was new.

Overall I'm pleased with the deal AND I was spared the need to go spend money at Wal-Mart (a shopping experience I tend to dread on a practical level, regardless of the politics of spending money at Wal-Mart). It wasn't a screaming OMG BUY NOW kind of thing, but it was convenient, I got a nice can, and I should be good for the summer if ammo starts to dry up again.

+1 on Walmart

Unless your car gets only 16mpg and you live a 100 mile from a Walmart?
Guess what? My car get's 16mpg city/25hwy. Guess how much it cost's me there and back? About 50-60 cent's, I only live about a mile from WM, it costs me more in sales taxes to drive there.

I was considering walking. GET REAL! LOL Well, then again,... ohhh, never mind, the wheel barrel had a flat. I let the air out just for an excuse to take the Lincoln.

...

Got the same price last month but in the big plastic ammo cans. I usually check http://wwww.gun-deals.com/ when I'm going to buy bulk.

FrosSst!!! Holy crap!!! I thought I had it bad living I CA... As much as our gun laws suck here in beautiful sunny californ-I-A, McWally World is still my go-to place for 22s and 12s. I buy NOTHiNG else there and always feel a bit dirty on my way out the door, but hey, shooting is my passion...

Walmart doesn't sell the CCI Blazer bulk, so you buy it where you can find it.
I stocked up on Blazer from the Sportman's Guide when they had a huge special on it several years ago.
Then last year one of the local gun shops had a CCI truckload sale on it at the same insanely low price. Cases of it were flying out of there like crazy. I didn't realize that they could still produce & sell CCI Blazer Bulk ammo at the same case price from over 3 years ago!
Then the last time that they had some again several months ago it was $15 plus tax which was still a good deal.
The same gun shop also had cases of Federal Automatch for about $10 per box of 350 last year.
I guess that's how they try to compete with Walmart once in a while by offering a different bulk .22 and at a lower price.
I try to keep several of the different brands on hand.
Another good alternative bulk .22 are Winchester Dynapoints but they're definitely more expensive now days and nearly impossible to find at a discount.
Cabela's has some sales on Federal bulk, usually with the blue Champion label. But within the last month they had 375 packs of the red Federal Bulk for $10.49 per box. They're just different batches of the same Federal bulk ammo, and I have had hardly any misfires with Cabela's Champions.
Last year I found a gun shop that had some left over boxes of the older Winchester Expert .22 bulk that were packed in the silver & black boxes instead of the white. These were lower velocity rounds than the current high velocity Expert .22's and I paid a premium to get that old ammo for $20 each.
But the chances are that they won't be found again. So it's not always about price. Sometimes it's the quality of the product and you just buy it where you can find it. Sometimes it will be at a gun show, other times by mail order or it could be sitting on the back shelf of a store somewhere.
You just need to hunt around for it.

For 22lr I usually go to Reloader supplies up in Auckland, its a bit of a drive but I don't go too often.

The last case of 12ga I got was from Wightsons in Morrinsville as their ammo was a lot cheaper than Hunting and Fishing, but I think I'll start getting it from Reloaders aswell, unless Serious shooters has it for a better price.

You are from New Zealand aren't you?:D

I live in southern NJ and wally world isn't an option. Anyone have links online? I have totally bought cases of shotshell online before with free shipping, so that whole 10 cases or more thing isn't true. I've also bought 3 or 4 bricks from cabelas and got a steal on it, no need to buy 50,000$ of .22 to make shipping worth it lol.

Ridiculous advise.

I wish walmart sold ammo here

Not so - a case of .22 runs about 6250 rounds the last time I bought one - makes it worthwhile without your snide comment about 50,000, and buying one flat at a time tells me you you don't shoot a lot of shotgun - people who shoot a LOT buy those flats (they're not cases as cases are 500, not 250) in at least quantities of 10 or more so they aren't reordering every few days.........;)

You really have to watch for sales on .22LR, otherwise it just isn't any cheaper than buying the bulk packs from Wally World.

I got lucky the last time I ordered some. Cabelas was having a sale on their 375 round Federal bulk packs, plus there was a coupon code for I believe it was 10% off an order over $150. So I ended up getting 7500 rounds for $195 shipped. 2.6 cents per round vs 3.4 cents per round in the normal Wally World packs. :)

Slickguns.com is a good site to keep an eye on.

Last I remember, the best deal I got online for .22 or for 12 gauge was from cabellas, and it was only because of free shipping.
