Where do you buy your ammo, and what are you paying?

I go to the gun shows, regularly check out ammoman.com,luckygunner.com,natchez,etc.... and it seems that sprawlmart has them beat, esp. when shipping is factored in.

They have the Federal "champion" 100 rnd box of 9mm for $19.97, bought 500 rnds for $108 OTD. Anybody seen a better deal on a "reputable name brand"?

Agreed, its hard to beat a good Walmart sale, when shipping is added in.

I use:
*Internet, with the usual suspects
-sportsman's guide
-cheaper than dirt
-cabellas
-freedom munitions
-Jack Ross (haven't used but heard good things about)
*Walmart
*Academy

Walmart and Academy are pretty comparable but just have a slightly different range ammunition available.

I forgot Academy. While the selection there blows away walmart, they do seem to be a bit higher pricewise. The tradeoff is that Academy always has stock, while at walmart its hit or miss.

Hasnt been that many years ago Academy had WWB 9mm 50 count for $4.something a box, i sure miss those days.

I wish it were otherwise, but the per-round price at Walmart is almost exactly the same (slightly less, if different at all) as buying in bulk and paying for shipping.

Here's some I didn't see mentioned.

Aimsurplus.com

Gun-deals.com
allows you to search deals by caliber and puts the deals in spreedsheet form for easy viewing. The list is easy to sort and it has links to all the deals.

Centerfiresystems.com
Their online catalog is fun to go through. They update it every couple months.

Two times I have purchased 1000 rounds of newly manufactured (not reloads) 180gr FMJ .40 S&W from Freedom Ammunition from Steven in Ohio. Eash time the cost was $260.00, including shipping. I have shot about 1500 of those rounds, and I have found the ammo to be exceptionally clean firing ammo. I have experienced no problems with the ammo at all. Take a look at the website to investigate further (www.freedomammunition.com.) I am in no way related or affiliated with the company, other that being a very satisfied customer.

Palmetto state armory ammo prices are usually good. Cheaper than dirt is good but their shipping ruins everything for them.

I would caution anyone thinking about using Jack Ross to wait until they've got their business sorted out. They have been unable to fulfill orders for quite sometime now. Which is sad because they're semi-local to me.

On a happier note, I've used SG Ammo, Cabela's(wait for ammo sale + free or flat rate shipping deals to coincide), and UN Ammo and been happy with all my purchases from those vendors.

I've been using Freedom Munitions for my 40 cal range ammo. Best pricing I have been able to find and with the free freight Labor Day sale last month, a few of us bought enough ammo to last a while on a group buy. :D

I used to use mainly Walmart, but now that a buddy of mine has gotten his .45ACP, we (along with his dad) tend to roll our own now, since the three of us together can crank out about 3000-3500 rounds in a day. Not sure on the price of all those rounds, we just give my friend's dad our used brass and stop in STL to pick up his supply orders (then drive them all the way up to CHI) and he considers that our financial contribution.
