Where can one find a " hot list " ?

I have the opportunity to buy at a rational
price, a 45/70, but the owner admits that he
doesn't know too much about its history. Is
there anywhere on the web where one can go
to find a master list of guns reported
stolen? One would think that there would be,
but how to find it??? crankshaft

I don't think you are going to find a "list" of stolen guns in the Internet. However you can call your local police and they can check the serial number in NCIC's and tell you.

Just make sure the local PD sends in the correct serial #.
If not, you could be in for a surprise and maybe a sleepless night or two.

Okay, I'll let it go and move on. But it still irks the &%*# out of me...

No fate but what we make...

Ran across a "similar situation" recently.

With a need to protect all innocents, I had first looked at the newspapers and noticed that there was a gun show this weekend & one the next.

The following Monday, a call to the PD to see if the shooter was hot. No problems & the purchase went through.

If they would have asked about that hot S/N, I would've gladly gone to the next gun show with them to find the guy with the "hot" gun.

It might have been very difficult to actually find the seller, though.
